ive got it BAD
wanna know how i know...
its not that i pick a lil piece of every succulent i see.
its not that any money i have goes towards my plants.
its not that i get an erection from looking at scruffys last find...
wanna know?
its this:
i climbed a 30' CACTUS to get this cutting. i HAD to have it.
the cactus was about 18" in diameter. and THANK GOD it was short spined.
i climbed it w/out gloves, fillet knife in my teeth, and gym shorts and sandals
i lost a sandal in one fork which sucked...and ive got spines stuck im me that i can reach
whos got the fever worse than i? is there a cure???
oh, anyone know the species???????

Put the power back in the peoples' hands by ending this nanny-state.

ha, a few weeks ago i was out digging up some prickly pear at the beach, and later on that night discovered some nasty little spines in the wrong places.
I dont mind the large, dagger like spears most cacti have, but the minute, hair like things on prickly pear cactus are the worst. They get everywhere, and sometimes they break off at the surface of the skin and cause days of discomfort.

they are fairly small here, more like figs.
ive used them in many things; glaze for pork and chicken, prickly pear martini, prickly pear jam, smoothies, theyre fucking delicious
If i ever obtain a large enough harvest, im going to try prickly pear wine

the pricklypears up here are like groups the size of houses, with paddles the size of a toilet, some bigger

would need A LOT. once they are mashed for their juices, they loose most of their volume, so a good bit would be required. it would be quite interesting and exotic though
And man I envy your tropical climate, i bet everything grows bigger over there . i can imagine my salvias would love it

When I was about 12 I was at a grocery store with some friends. I found a prickly pear and joked about how it wasn't prickly at all (I was unaware of all the tiny invisible spines). So anyways, I felt it necessary to point out how unprickly this fruit was, so I proceeded to rub it all over myself... That was a HORRIBLE night.
