Connect to the internet through another computer that's using a wireless connection to another...

computer.  I have my wireless network set up and a laptop that connects through it.  My stepfather left me his computer to reinstall Windows and generally just restore to what it was before his granddaughters got a hold of it.  I want to connect it to the internet, but already have it set up downstairs and don't feel like moving it up or moving the cable modem down.

Isn't their some way to connect the laptop to my stepfather's computer with an Ethernet cable and use it's internet connect?  I did a search but they only describe how to do it if the laptop (for example) was what connected directly to the internet.

Yes, you need a crossover cable to plug from the laptop ethernet to the ethernet on the PC, then open Network Connections on your laptop, right click your wireless connection, click advanced and enable internet sharing.... Make sure the LAN is enabled on both computers.

Run the network setup wizard on both comps from the control panel, the questions will ask you (from the laptop end) if this PC connects directly to the internet, select yes... On the PC select this PC connects through a residential gateway (meaning your laptop) finish the wizard - restart both machines and you should be fine.
