Fermented Smell

I birthed and dunked my cakes for 6 hours last night.  They were extremely healthy and smelled exactly like mushshrooms.  I dunked them for 6 hours, took them out, drained the water, and then redunked them today.  I did this because I was scared I might dorwn them.  :confused:  So I just redunked them, but smelled the jars before I did.  A couple had a sour smell to it.  Is this contam?  Im hoping not, because I didnt do anything wrong, just dunked, drained, then re dunked.  Was this a problem?

Sour is not a good smell to have. Keep them separated from the good ones others and then keep them around to see if they in fact are contamed.

Thanks for the input. I searched on the forum and found out that it might just be the stale air within the jar. I obviously dunked, drained the cakes and didnt do anything with them for about 18 hours, so there was probably stale air trapped in it. Hopefully this is it. The cakes look very healthy, and didnt have such a problem when I first birthed. MORE INPUT WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. THANKS
