Syringe problem

Alright, this is probably one of the dumbest questions ever asked on this board, but here it goes. I just received my first syringe today and I have my substrate ready in the jars sterilized but I can't seem to figure out how to get the needle of the syringe exposed. It has some kind of protective cover, and if I unscrew it, it comes completely off and will expose the spore solution to the air. Also, I tried just pushing from the top and liquid came out but the needle stayed in the cover. How do I expose the needle?

I always use a slight clockwise pressure as i pull to make sure the needle stays seated.
