Trust me, Ive spent hours on the forum trying to get comfy that all is well, but Im just concerned that Ive got overlay and I need to do something.
I cased this wheat berry substrate 11 days ago with pure vermic (+ appropriate amounts of lime and gypsum), and put in the FC with no lights for 4 days. The light has been on for 7 days 12/12. Temp is low 70s and humidity is in the upper 90s. Ive got 4-6 FAEs/day with a light misting. Seems like Im doing all the right things, but no pins that I can see. Also looks like Ive got some metabolites which is not what Im concerned about.
My question is whether Im just being impatient or whether I should scratch the casing?
Id really like someone with experience to let me know how it looks. Hyphae, RR? What do you guys see?
I sure appreciate it!!

-It is not overlay, it was cased in PURE VERM. The gypsum and lime have nothing to do with this.
-Plus think of the PF Tek, it has you fruit right from the jar. So is that just a ball of overylay(Kinda)? But cubes can grow like that and that is all that matters 'in this case atleast'
-So don't worry, you are all good. It can take more than 2 weeks for pins, dont worry.

READ THIS
That casing looks a bit too wet to me. I see water droplets everywhere.

The main reason to lime with casing is because the peat moss is naturally acidic, and the lime brings the ph up. I don't know how much you used or what your casing ph is, but it is probably really high if you limed pure verm. Here area few quotes from the man himself...to answer your question.
"Scratching seems to have benefits with button mushrooms, but in my experience, it does little to no good with cubensis. I tried it many times, and it seemed to set back progress every time. RR"
" Overlay is extremely rare. Are you sure you're not confusing full colonization with overlay? Mushrooms fruit very well from fully colonized casing layers. I'm no fan of Stamet's deep scratching method. It seems to cause more harm than good. RR"
Sorry I don't have any suggestions...good luck

Leave it be , they'll come. That's not overlay , just a colonized casing layer .
You can dab the liquid off with a clean paper towel if you want .
Good Luck

Thanks for the comments! I'll relax and keep doing what I'm doing.
Would still love to hear from anyone else who has some feedback.
I read Nicholas and Ogame's book on growing and they don't even show casings that have any myc showing; just fruits popping through the uncolonized casing. They also put their casings under fruiting conditions right from the time the substrate comes out of the jars.
To the contrary, what I seem to read here as the norm is to case, allow the myc to colonize the casing to some extent, then put under fruiting conditions.
Can someone explain why you should or shouldn't allow the myc to colonize the casing before fruiting? Their book sure as hell shows some awesome flushes without it.
Anyone?

There are many ways to skin a cat. This is a small grow I did without any casing at all:

Some people let their bulk substrate completely colonize, then case and fruit right away. Some people wait until they see some colonization on the casing and fruit it. Some people patch the growth on their casings until it is pretty evenly colonizing the casing layer, then fruit.
Fahtster here waits until he sees pins to case:

Bottom line: Don't think their is only one "right" way to do it.
