How long typically after the rains do cyans start popping up? I'm giddy like a school-girl!

It all depends on the temparature.
Once the conditions are right and the season kicks into full swing they will continuosly grow from morning dew and the the more rain we get  the more cyan growth.

Yeah, the temps need to drop down to about 45°-55° for daytime highs.

Is that really true? I've had the hardest time browsing the shroomery and google trying to find accurate information on the weather portion of habitat on a number of different mushrooms, like p. cyans.

Is there somewhere I can look that gives a general temperature range for different species of mushrooms?

The above post for daytime temperatures of 45-55 F is a little bit low (in my experience, however I am sure it has varied and that, over the years, reality has shaped a much different picture than my own observations).  I'd say more like 40-50 at night, and maybe 50-60 in the day is when I begin to notice the most prolific growth, at which point it slowly descends towards winter.  This generally occurs around the very very beginning of October or the last week of September.

Can't remember which book it was in, but in one of the stamets books, it says optimum temps are between 50 and 60 degrees F...

the book is called The Mushroom Cultivator
by stamets and j.s. chilton.

under growth parameters in the book for cyans it states:


Colonization:
65-75deg F
90% humidity

Primordia formation:
50-60deg F
95% humidity

Fruiting:
50-60deg F
85-92% humidity

and cyans are 90-92% water by weight, 8-10% dry matter by weight.

anyone been down to the coast lately, astoria, long beach area. If so how does the dune grass look, its it green yet or does it look dead? I might be heading down there on the 20th looks like its supposed to rain then too, so maybe!

it will still probably be colonizing by next weekend.

you guys probably wont be seeing mushrooms in washington til mid october.


but who knows, on season in california i found a cyan on august 16th marking the start of the season, and again in like april or may, marking the end of it.

the seasons can be wicked and wild and unpredictable.

best that u get out there and start looking, at least find some good habitats, and check on old patches.

its right around the corner guys, i dont have them near me but ill be traveling to find them, good luck out there

I had a great vacation out there last year. I believe it was the second week in October through November 1st. Huge hauls... Don't think I'll make it this year, but I wish yall happy hunting. If you get skunked I might share a spot or two with you...

With global warming they are coming up later and later, i wouldnt bother looking till december but i think January is when the real boomers will be out.  On second thought I wouldnt even bother this year, PNW Psilocybe hunting is way played out.
