I agree that the law could be read this way, but I wonder whether such incidents would ever be prosecuted?  This situation would not require registration as a sex offender, in any case.

Thanks for the info, I was re-hashing what I read in that news story I posted:shrug:

No worries, I didn't know for certain until I read the law myself.

My mother threatened to charge my first boyfriend with statutory rape.   She was unbelievable.

Were you actually under the age of consent and him over the statutory max for your age, or was she just ignorant?

Either way, that is terrible, not to rag on your mom.  Get a kid convicted of rape, probably go to jail, and have him report as a rapist for the rest of his life just cuz the mom was pissed.  She should be mad at you, not him.

As long as you weren't ten or something....

Glad to see she didn't follow through.  These things really irritate me.  Another is when a child over the age of consent law, like 16 year old in many places, has sex with the guy and the parents find out.  They flip out and the girl says "Oh I ddin't want to really..." then they try to file rape charges or the girl is pressured to lie.  I've heard of that happening far more than it is prosecuted, but even a few times is too many.

IMO, if the girl is still with the boyfriend and still sees him either on the sly or untill the parents find out they had sex, that should be prima facia evidence their was no rape.

How many girls would continue seeing a kid after being raped?  Sorry, but coercion is not rape- it demeans the word.

If the girl isn't homeless, like lives with her parents, their is no reason she would continue to see the kid, so their should never be charges brought in this case.

I was 17 & he was 20, so the charges likely would have been upheld.  Because I was over 16, it would have been a misdemeanor charge & not a felony rape charge. She never followed through because her threat was "if I find out that you've had sex again, I'll press charges."  We were sneaky for 11 months until I turned 18.

She was on a control trip, as she had been during my entire childhood and adolescence.  Oh, well, at least I learned from her mistakes & have managed to create a trusting relationship with MY teenage son.

good.  The most promiscuous girl I knew in highschool had the craziest parents.  She was having three ways at 16 and telling everyone about them.  Parents were insanely protective and strict, and she didn't tell them anything.

She wound up in juvenile hall before she got out of highschool.

Parents should set the rules but always be open to talking too.  My dad was like that.  I could call him and tell him I was drunk and he'd drive me home and not give me shit about it, and I always felt like I could talk to him.

Good for you   Its a shame that some parents think their kids aren't individuals and will somehow turn out better if they can't talk to their parents for advice without getting yelled at and grounded.

It's a fine line to walk between being accepting enough to foster trust & disapproving enough to guide behavior.  I tend to err on the side of acceptance, because I know I've done a good job of parenting him so far & he's a great young man.  I'd rather not alienate him & become excluded from his confidence, as well as leaving him without an advisor in the future.

He's expressed over and over again how terrific it is for him to be able to tell me anything, and know that I won't judge him for it.  I've told him that my job as his parent from age 12 to 18 is to gradually hand over the reins of his life to him, and only take them back temporarily if he shows me that he needs more training before he can handle "steering" by himself.

Parents who don't work themselves out of the job are NOT parenting, IMO.

Yes, but taking a photo of yourself in the nude is not likely to result in pregnancy.

depends on the type of photos I suppose

On a funny note my friend got a twenty year old girlfriend while he was only 16 years old..  She wouldn't have sex with him cause she thought it was illegal.  My friend and I looked up the law on the internet and printed it out (from his parents computer, lol) and he brought it to her.

I guess that was so romantic it worked, lol.

Nice candlelit dinner with rose petals, dimmed lights, soft music, and a copy of the Ohio Revised Code section on rape and child molestation really got her fired up :thumbup

I met my wife when I was 13. She was 22 and out of college. When I was 16, she was 25 and we got married.
