    #8867289 - 09/02/08 05:46 PM (15 years, 7 months ago)

Hey all,

I need to know the mating system of eryngii.

The reference I have says it is not yet known.....but it was compiled in 1978, so I am thinking somebody knows by now.

Thanks for your help.

I have not done an exhaustive google search, but from what I have searched so far I havent found anything.

as for what I mean by 'mate', I mean is it homo- or heterothallic, and if heterothallic, is it under bifactorial control or unifactorial?

I am guessing heterothallic, but I dont know for sure.

Any input would be great.

thanks

A quote from http://sciencelinks.jp/j-east/article/200416/000020041604A0519613.php

Quote:

Abstract; The genetic constitution of A and B incompatibility factors in the two test strains of Pleurotus eryngii (DC.: Fr.) Quel was examined by linkage analysis. Mating tests using basidiospore progeny from each of those confirmed that the mating system of P. eryngii is tetrapolar with two A and B incompatibility factors. There was no linkage between the A and B incompatibility factors in P. eryngii similar to various tetrapolar basidiomycetetous mushrooms. The B incompatibility factor recombinants were found among about 20 spore isolates of each strain on the test crosses. It was also demonstrated that the genetic distance between two subunits of the B incompatibility factor in this fungus, B.ALPHA. and B.BETA., were varied between 4.5 and 7.4 cM on the two strains. On the other hand, any A recombinant was not found in mating tests of the two strains. (author abst.)

Hope this helps
LIPA

Thanks Lipa.

Thats exactly what I was looking for. I think I was google searching for the wrong string or something, because I found that same site with articles from the same author, but not that specific article.

Good to know.
