Yet another LC question
    #8870830 - 09/03/08 10:13 AM (15 years, 5 months ago)

Ok, I started an LC using Karo (this is my first attempt doing an LC) at about 3 to 4 percent and showed the first signs of growth on the third full day (about the size of a dime). However, it has been three weeks and the growth has slowed way down. That is to say that I have several myc strands but it is not thick at all. Is there anything I can do to speed this up or am I doomed at this point?

Another question I have is this, I started a honey LC about 4 days ago (This is my second attempt) and have seen zero growth so far (I know be patient). But growth is not my concern. What I did was PC the LC for around 30 minutes and then filtered out the sediment then PCed again and let it cool to room temp. After the LC cooled and was knocked up I notice that there was still some sediment in the two jars.  I have read and found some conflicting information about sediment in LC jars. So I was wondering, is this going to be a problem?

As for the  karo lc, it does not tend to get as thick and fluffy as the honey lc. You could try injecting sterile air into the lc. mycellium needs some air to grow. In a closed environment, it can only go so far. Make sure to shake the jar vigorously daily to mix air into the water.

I have not tried the honey lc so I can't help on that one.

Well with the honey I have also had sediment from over PC'ing (caramelised it) and still had success, I don't think its going to be a problem at all, but next time only PC for 20 mins, that seems to work fine for me

If your not shaking the jar, shake the heck out of it.

I have never had very good success with honey because of the sediments.

Ya, I shake the jars on a daily bases as the teks say to do. But the growth is after the first week is slow to none.
