I am working on an albino Gym right NOW!
I have only done preliminary tests, but the following mushroom might actually be an albino Gym. It wasn't sporeless though so I have something to work with.
Nothing like massive confusion.
I'll tell the story of how this came to be in another thread.
mushrooms are so amazing is to scientific study that we are gonna understand more, iam so happy for you my friend, is amazing how many finds have been this year, still not over, the confussion will bring ilusion and new road..

Yes, cactu. I am not ashamed to say I am guided by love. To me, the mushrooms are beautiful fungal flowers.

Ahhh I understand now. So what I was suspecting was true. I do not believe in coincidence. That is how you knew without knowing about the albino.
An odd series of circumstances led me to the valley these were found in. I have found 7 species of active mushrooms in it all total so far. For this area of the country that is amazing. I have even heard of another Psilocybe that has been found there but I will not say what it is. There are more ways of looking at these mushroom hunts than just pure science. I think intuition also plays a part.

Thank you, cactu. When I explain to others about the amazing amounts of mushrooms this year and the new species being discovered, I tell them about what you said this year would mean. Many new species are being discovered all over the world, some are active and our members have found them. It is an exciting time to be here.

Senor, could you provide us with some cross-section pics of the caps and stems? That is, if you've noticed anything that differs from the usual Gyms (e.g. the Gymlike has unusual flesh color or hollow stems).
I agree that the spores seem Stropharia-like, and Hypholomas and Psilocybes seem to be the only other possible candidates based on physical form and spore color, lest the spores are on the brown side and it could be a Pholiota (I doubt Hypholoma on account of the rings).
Perhaps this is a Gym species or variety that only differs in its spore color? Is the ornamentation very different from typical Gyms, IYO? Some mushroom genera are known to host species with a far range of spore colors (e.g. the "pinkish" prints of Tylopilus alboater vs. the "light brown" prints of T. ballouii; or the "pinkish buff" prints of Clitocybe/Lepista nuda vs. the "white" prints of C. gigantea).

I could have produced lots of things by now but I haven't because of all the other projects, including ID exams for others. In general, if I am helping someone else I will let my own projects go because I can always get to them later.
One thing I am not confused about is the color of the spores in deposit. I have looked at hundreds of species down through the years and know the colors quite well. On the upper portion of the stipe which I sent Alan, the fibrillose veil looks brown. But the amount of spores probably doesn't contribute much to that because of their number. And looking at a few spores on a colored background will change the way they look.
One of this winter's projects is a set of prepared slides for the various common species found here at the Shroomery. As far as I know no such series exists on the Internet.
Yes, you are correct, N2. I should definitely do some more work on these to add more data to what we already know.
This mushroom has a definite Gym "vibe," if you know what I mean. Having said that, the color, lack of ornamentations and other features of the spores rule them and Pholiotas out. I will make a commitment right now to investigate this further asap.
I want to extend a special thanks to Alan once again for helping me on this project. Many hands make light work.

Yeah, Danny. In the next couple of days I will definitely look at the yellow-brown residue on the transparency film to see what it is. I have suspected it is spores. If that is the case, this mushroom is producing two entirely different spores with entirely different features. That would be a first in mycology but at this point I rule nothing out.
Bizzare.

I think one of the things that prevents many of us from finding new stuff is habit. We hunt in the same old way doing the same old things over and over again. Maybe the secret is to hunt in new ways to find new things. I have changed and refined my hunting style as often as I have trying to make a spore print.
Anyway, here are somewhat startling results from today's photos. I dug out the transparency with the yellowish stains on it to see what I could see. These are something like I found when I tried to get some off the index card. These are definitely yellowish-brown. A perfect match for a Pholiota-- definitely NOT purple-black to black. I have never heard of a mushroom throwing two different colored spores but there it is. I am short on time so I'm not measuring these tonight.
I should add that there were VERY few of these spores compared to the stain itself. I counted maybe a dozen. Apparently, the gills exude something. It doesn't have any substance I could detect by examining it.
It just gets weirder and weirder.

Weird stuff, looks sort of like a gym and sort of like a hypholoma. The two spore colors are weird as well.

Well, I solved the two spore colors. They came from two different mushrooms. Go figure.

And you're probably the first person to grow a sterile active species.
This following photo is probably the fruiting that these were cloned from.
