Moody Blues
    #884354 - 09/15/02 09:08 PM (21 years, 6 months ago)

O.K so I absolutely love the track "nights in white satin"
And the tracks"isn't life strange" and "ride my seesaw" are pretty good as well. But none of the other stuff I have downloaded(the best of album) is anything like it. Especially the late 80's stuff.
Any buffs out there?

Look for stuff from "On the Threshold of a Dream" and "In Search of the Lost Chord." Those are the two best albums, IMHO...

  • Voices in the Sky
  • The Best Way to Travel

"House of the rising sun. "
That song always reminds me of Joe Pesci's death scene in ' Casino'. :frown:

Uhm, may I have some of what you're smoking?   "House of the Rising Sun" was by the Animals, not Moody Blues.

Well, they've already been mentioned, but my favorites are "The Story In Your Eyes", "Tuesday Afternoon", "Question" and "Legend Of A Mind". Stay away from anything from the Moody Blues past 1972 or so. They got LAAAAAAAAAME.
Here's the lyrics to

"Legend Of A Mind"

Timothy Leary's dead.
No, no, no, no, He's outside looking in.
Timothy Leary's dead.
No, no, no, no, He's outside looking in.
He'll fly his astral plane,
Takes you trips around the bay,
Brings you back the same day,
Timothy Leary. Timothy Leary.

Timothy Leary's dead.
No, no, no, no, He's outside looking in.
Timothy Leary's dead.
No, no, no, no, He's outside looking in.
He'll fly his astral plane,
Takes you trips around the bay,
Brings you back the same day,
Timothy Leary. Timothy Leary.

Along the coast you'll hear them boast
About a light they say that shines so clear.
So raise your glass, we'll drink a toast
To the little man who sells you thrills along the pier.

He'll take you up, he'll bring you down,
He'll plant your feet back firmly on the ground.
He flies so high, he swoops so low,
He knows exactly which way he's gonna go.
Timothy Leary. Timothy Leary.

He'll take you up, he'll bring you down,
He'll plant your feet back on the ground.
He'll fly so high, he'll swoop so low.
Timothy Leary.

He'll fly his astral plane.
He'll take you trips around the bay.
He'll bring you back the same day.
Timothy Leary. Timothy Leary.
Timothy Leary. Timothy Leary.
Timothy Leary.

Strange that no one has mentioned the album Days of future past. This was their second and probably thier best imo.

The track listing:

1:The day begins
2:Dawn is a feeling
3:Another morning
4:Peak hour
5:Forever afternoon (tuesday), Time to get away
6: The sun set, Twilight time
7: Nights in white satin

Extract from liner notes: The Moodies' second album -their first witha new line-up- mixed the harmony-based psychedelia of their own songs with orchestral interludes, finishing with one of the all time rock classics, 'Nights in white satin.'
Originally intended as a buget-priced demonstration album for Decca's new Deramic Sound System, DAYS OF FUTURE PAST established the MOODY BLUES on the world stage.

Nights in white satin Eh? He ain't talkin bout bed sheets.

I know they're making reference to a psychedelic experience, but what do the words "Nights In White Satin" mean? I'm in the dark.

I've been trying to get the first Moody Blues albums for a while, but noone in the Shroomery Cd Exchange Club has traded it to me yet.

My take on it was that it was about trying to hold onto the feelings that occur while making love, but finding it impossible. Listen carefully and you will hear both ecstacy and great anguish in the coming together of two bodies/spirits and the subsequent separation.

Yes, I agree 100%. It is a love song and not a veiled reference to tripping. Lyrics:

"The Night: Nights In White Satin"

Nights in white satin,
Never reaching the end,
Letters I've written,
Never meaning to send.

Beauty I'd always missed
With these eyes before,
Just what the truth is
I can't say anymore.

'Cause I love you,
Yes, I love you,
Oh, how, I love you.

Gazing at people,
Some hand in hand,
Just what I'm going thru
They can understand.

Some try to tell me
Thoughts they cannot defend,
Just what you want to be
You will be in the end,

And I love you,
Yes, I love you,
Oh, how, I love you.
Oh, how, I love you.

Nights in white satin,
Never reaching the end,
Letters I've written,
Never meaning to send.

Beauty I'd always missed
With these eyes before,
Just what the truth is
I can't say anymore.

'Cause I love you,
Yes, I love you,
Oh, how, I love you.
Oh, how, I love you.

'Cause I love you,
Yes, I love you,
Oh, how, I love you.
Oh, how, I love you.

Peace

Forgot to mention the spoken text at the end of the tune:

Late Lament (Graeme Edge)

Breathe deep the gathering gloom,
Watch lights fade from every room.
Bedsitter people look back and lament,
Another day's useless energy spent.
Impassioned lovers wrestle as one,
Lonely man cries for love and has none.
New mother picks up and suckles her son,
Senior citizens wish they were young.
Cold hearted orb that rules the night,
Removes the colours from our sight.
Red is grey and yellow white.
But we decide which is right.
And which is an illusion?.

Peace

1) Sounds like the song writer had his mind blown on LSD, and now he's having trouble deciding "just what the truth is"

2) What's that "Late Lament" thing? Is that something that's on the album? All I have from the Moody Blues is a greatest hits cd.
