Small Hike Through the Forest (Picnic beside a creek)
    #8860457 - 09/01/08 03:07 PM (12 years, 6 months ago)

Just some pictures of some interesting fungi I saw while going on a picnic about mid-day. Anyway, I still have the cow fields to visit later on this afternoon. Just thought Id post some interesting looking pictures.

Looks like you had a nice walk. I like them pics even though they're a bit blurry (watch the focus!), I'll take a stab at some genera, please correct me if I'm wrong:
#1 is a russula
#2 is an agaricus
#3, #4, #6 & #9: dunno, your call
#5 would be a hygrocybe
#7 is one of the very poisonous amanitas
#8 is probably a bolete or one of the related genera, hard to make out due to blurriness.

Yeah. <.< I finally got this awesome camera of mine working, but I'm no photographer, so I have NO idea how to properly use it. If anyone knows anything about cameras, it's a Fujifilm FinePix 2 Mega Pixel CCD (Whatever that means) w/ 6x Optical Zoom. <<< If you know ANYTHING, please throw me some hints on how to get more crisp, close-up shots.

(Also, the one you said was Hygrocybe had a very... wet cap to it. Almost as if it had been soaked in water. Very slimeh.)

(The more mature specimens of the first picture (Russula) had upturned, wet, and broken caps. From looking at pictures/descriptions, and your guess of Russula, I think it is a Russula emetica)

Use the macro function. Nearly all cameras have one, I'm sure yours has one too. I'm guessing this is your camera:

If so, it has a macro option which is available in wide-angle mode (zoom out as far as possible), which will allow you to get objects into focus down to about 4" (10cm) from the front of the lens. Check the manual of your cam to find out how to activate macro mode.

Yes. That's the one.

(Sweet. I got the macro effect working. Thanks!)
