Hello Everyone, I'm new here, but trying to expand my knowledge of Mycology. I Live in Arkansas Which blessed by the recent Rain has Caused a over abundance in certain shrooms here. Most Common where i live are Boletus campestris which strike So Blue when cut that i had to gather a few for some spore prints and research. I had gathered about 5-9 large specimens, Which in turn started heading home from a gathering field not far from my home. Labor day has its bad points too lol..... at a "inspection checkpoint" the police Actually asked to search my car...i told him of everything i had with me and he looked the car over very very hard.... frustrated the cop asked me where i was going and what i was doing... i simply told him that i was out taking some pictures(had my camera with me) and was on my way home.... He asked to see the pictures... Sure enough the Huge Red Boletes were staring back at him, in which he asked where they were... i handed him a ziploc container containing half of my harvest and he asked me "These Magic Mushrooms boy?" i Replied No and told him the whole True ordeal.. He took one smelled it, made a horrible face(no odor was present lol) handed it back, and told me to get where ever i was going... lol was quite the experience seeing if he had cut one or took it to research i guess he could have pinned me.... oh well.... I look forward to many more days without police intervention. and worry not... The Boletes i gathered shall not be eaten.. Internal Upset and all.

there is no way in hell I would let the fuzz search my car without probable cause let alone look at my camera. Learn the law and use it to protect yourself, you basically handed yourself in and the cop decided to let you go.

no.... no... and no again... I had nothing to Hide...... Mushrooms here for recreation isn't as wide spread... police aren't even trained for such things here.... BUT.. Me allowing him to all his hearts content to search or do whatever he wished...did 2 things... 1. Shortened the encounter(refusing a Search contests to a Warrant for search and seizure and Can Have worse effects than just letting him search)IE:tearing your carpet out if he just feels like it. 2. Proved i had nothing to Hide, The pictures proved i wasn't out just eating wild mushrooms..
The guilty goto Jail... The cautious walk away with a car full of shrooms.
I know the Law here.... And use to my full advantage every chance i get...lol

It is your right to refuse a search unless they have probable cause. The best they could do without probable cause is bring a canine out to your car and have it sniff for drugs, which would yeild nothing. They can not get a search warrant on the basis of you refusing a search alone, that is your right.
Are Boletes not active?

My thoughts exactly. "Where are you going?" What is this, Nazi Germany?

the cop has to be able to articulate probable cause, refusal to consent to search is not PC, by saying "no, you may not search my car" your encounter could have ended at that very moment, cops arent allowed to dan anything 'just because they feel like it'

really because I had a friend that was innocent of the charges of burglary but he went to jail for conspiracy to comit burglary and possession of burglary tools (construction tools) seems the cop didnt know the law and he was paid to enforce it the judge dismissed the case because the officer didnt have probable cause, the moment my friend left the parking lot of the building probable cause left as well

actually they need probable cause for that as well, I've had a dog handler insist the cop articulate PC before he allowed the 'search', the cop couldnt do the dog handler packed up and left
