ultra-cheapo humidification/FAE

I just wanted to share this little idea with yall and get some feedback on it, and maybe help some people save some cash. For humidification, instead of going out and wasting 20 or so dollars on some crappy tropicaire humidifier, consider this instead: all those types of humidifiers do is run air from a fish-tank pump over a moist sponge, this partially humidifies the fresh air flow. What you can do is simply place an air stone in a jar or some other container, and fill up the jar around it with wet perlite. Dont fill it all the way to the top, though, it will expand. Then when you turn on the air-pump, all the air filters through a massive moist surface area to diffuse into your FC. All the fresh air that spills out the top of that container is going to be heavily moistened by the perlite. As the air filters through the perlite, it also expands it, which is why you shouldnt fill it all the way to the top.

if you already use perlite humidification in your FC, placcing the air-stone underneath the perlite will result in higher humidification, and also diffuses the fresh air more efficiently.

see? no sense in spending 20 bucks on something you can whip together with supplies you likely already have on hand. :wink:
