Problem with 2nd/pop-up window
    #8856726 - 08/31/08 04:06 PM (15 years, 8 months ago)

I've started having problems when I have a 2nd window open or have one pop-up.  It just says that explorer has encountered a problem and must close but never does even when I tell it to do so with the Task Manager.  Sometimes it asks if to check for problems and restart, sometimes check for problems and close.  When it isn't responding the window is blank, but doesn't close.  I just updated Windows and my Norton is up to date.  Any kind of tip would be greatly appreciated as well as any resources y'all know about as I'm trying to learn more in depth troubleshooting and repair.

Vista...it's when i'm using explorer.  It's bad if I try to use something like AIM or Yahoo Messenger, but also if I just click on a survey on something like espn.com.  I haven't seen if the problem continues with Office software, and it hasn't done anything when I was playing video games.  It's a new laptop so I think it might be a problem with IE 8, I'm reading problems with it on cnet.com.

Have you tried firefox? It won't fix your IE but you probably won't go back to IE anyway

Is internet explorer crashing or windows explorer- if they have that on vista?

But yeah, if IE is giving you problems go to firefox.  Loads better, and firefox 3 seems pretty nifty w/ memory usage compared to 2

I use Firefox, but Opera seems pretty good too.  Ditch the IE (and the Norton, all in due time).

I figured it out, it was an add-on from yahoo that was wrecking everything.  Guess no more Yahoo messenger, oh well.

So you guys really like Firefox that much more?  Do websites work/look the same with it?  I do a bunch of fantasy football and watch a bunch of live sporting events across the net as well as tv, does Firefox do that well?

Yep. Give it a go anyway, it's not like installing it will remove IE8, you can test them side-by-side if you like.
