Wierd spongy fungus

Whilst hunting my dinner (oyster mushrooms mmmmm...) last night, i stumbled across a very cool mushroom, well more of a polypore. It had the consistancy of thick, wet sponge, bruised dark brown within a second of being touched, and oozed a coloured goo. It also cut like a cake :laugh:

Nope, no chicken this is. My guess would be a young specimen of inonotus hispidus. Interestingly, this species occurs as a parasite on living trees, including oak. But yours seems to be fruiting from a fallen (dead) log, is that right?

The tree still had a few shoots off it, so it was just about alive.
