repairing chewed headphone wires
    #8853851 - 08/30/08 08:26 PM (15 years, 8 months ago)

My sister's rabbit chewed through the cords to my pair of Bose Triport headphones. Does anyone know an easy way to repair these without shipping them back to the company? I don't want to be without them for three weeks.

My dad has a soldering kit, but there is some kind of fabric in between the rubber and the wires and i'm not sure if that will cause a problem.

yeah just cut the ends clean, peel off some of the jacket from both ends and twist together.  You can wrap electrical tape around it to insulate it.

allso, it wouldn't hurt to solder it. just cut the fabric out.  if you solder it then just lay the wires together in-line and solder them together.  then wrap with electrical tape.

Even better than electrical tape is heat-shrink tubing - you slide it over the join and hit it with a hair dryer (or hold it over a toaster).

Awesome, wikipedia has an animated gif of it shrinking!

Buy it from electrical stores for like $1/metre
