Sclorch: I don't think genes dictate intelligence.
ToxicMan: Do you then believe that chimpanzees have the same potential intelligence as a human? The difference between them and us is the genes.

I didn't notice that my statement was so ambiguous.
Let me restate it.

The morphological characteristics dictated by genes (within a species) do not vary enough (except in extreme cases i.e. birth defects) to affect the brain's overall structure and function. IMHO, I would say 90-95% (maybe more) of our "intelligence" is dictated by nurture... the rest due to morphology (genes). With those figures- based solely on my knowledge of the brain and cognitive science (my forte)- I don't think genes play that significant of a role in determining someone's intelligence. Furthermore, there are MANY ways (lots of studies available on this subject) one can increase their IQ (standard test of "intelligence"... though I think disposition and "common sense" {whatever that is} should be included). This only strengthens my point that genes (for the most part) don't dictate intelligence.

Think about this:
'Nurture' leaves the door open for change.

I'm done thinking about it.

Too egalitarian for me.

I'm firmly ensconced in nature.

Think about this:
Some people cannot change.

Or are you saying that a moron with no organic brain dysfunction can become the next Einstein?

But that is not to say that isn't some room for improvement. I see it as a blend with nature setting the limits for the nuture aspect. Nurture is bounded.

Cheers,

*Heaves a HUGE sigh*

Where are you going, my brother? Or should I not ask? We knew each other barely, and yet, I feel diminished without you. I am honored more than you know that you stopped in to say your goodbye to me specifically in my thread. A thread that brought me much joy, until now.

Goodbye my Brother wherever you are going.

Thank you for the lessons you taught me.

Thank you for taking the time to post.

Thank you for your understanding.

Thank you for being you.

I never told you, but I loved you.

Go in peace.
