Guerilla Tactics - Will they work?
    #884934 - 09/16/02 06:59 AM (14 years, 5 months ago)

Hi! Considering I want to grow my own Shrooms , but I still live with my Parents , I was forced to come up with a more subtle place to grow , than in my Garage. After cracking my head over it for ages I came up with the following:
I took an old PC Casing and built in a Powersupply. Cause I cant be bothered to fan five times a day,(It would be annoying to take of the Casing every time!!) I installed two 80mm Fans. One is in the Back blowing in , and the other in the Front blowing out. They are connected with the PSU , which again is connected to a Timer.
This is what it looks like:

A Picture of the Air-ventilation:

I then plan to cover the ground with wet perlite. As a casing I will use the aluminum Container you see here:

Finally I want to put the Lid back to ensure a fairly closed setup.

I am quite pleased with my Construction , but am a bit concerned about humidity as the fans do have gaps. I figured , that I could make cover plates to seal them up when I sleep , as I dont want the fans to run then anyhow.
What do you think? Will this work?
Thanks,
JazzMatazz

UPDATE:
To tackle possible humidity problems I have decided to isolate the Perlite and the Substrate from the PSU by putting it into a gigantic plastic bag. I want to cover it with tiny holes to ensure a gasexchange. Water should stay inside and therefore humidity inside the bag should stay acceptable.

Good idea.

Some suggestions: replace the front fan with a coarse filter.
They will need some light too in there. Install a light diode or so inside the case.

Hmm, the powersuply has a fan by itseld that sucks air through it...
I?m not sure how well it can handle nearly 100% RH moist air...

wow, you are very inventive. First off, 2 fans is way overkill. You will never be able to keep enough humidity in that container. Maybe if they are on for 30 sec every 6 hours or so. case will have to be sealed better if you are going to use perelite. It can take a couple of hours to reach propper humidity. Next, i can't believe that those fans, and power supply are going to be able to handle the type of high condensing humidity that is required my growing shroomies. let us know how it all works our. I would scrap that for a small rubbermaid container under your bed. fan daily.

very creative man, unfortunately i dont think it will work too good. First, there are too many holes in acomputer case, so you will have low humidity. As far as the plates on the fans go, its would help. I would recommend you keep the plates on at all times except fro a couple of minutes a day 2 times a day while you vent, maybe even once a day.

Another issue is rust. If yu get the humidity up high enough, its gonna start eating away at the interior of that case.

But practice makes perfect, so If I were you id go ahead and try it. One thing I would recommend would be to buy some kitchen & bath sylicone acrylic, (You know the rubbvery stuff at the edges of your Bath tub) it comes in a squeesable tube and you can buy it at home depot. Use this to fill up as many holes as you can on that case. Also you might want to try just using one fan blowing out from the top, this will reduce hunidity leaks.

Good luck and tell us how it went.

@Badmotofinger: Thanks for replying! Well , I am gonna fill up the rest off the holes in the case , by glueing metal scraps , which I will cut into shape, onto them. That should help.

Yeah , I thought about that to , but the problem is that my mother (or the cleaning lady) will probably find it. If it doesn?t work , ill try the loft though...

I like your construction, well done!

if i were u though, i wouldnt worry about the fact the box is not sealed, but i would concentrate on installing a lamp to work there for say 12 hours. note that when the lamp will be on, it will increase the temp inside the box and the humidity. so, take care. buy an hygrometer / thermometer and do your tests to see whats going on inside!

Grob, nicht zu feinmaschig.
In etwa die Sorte wie sei in den Dunstabzugshauben verwendet wird. Soll dazu dienen den groben Staub abzuscheiden.

I have got the money to get a Hadroymeter. Ill dake a quecksilver thermostat and check every none and then. If its too cold , ill put it next to the heater at full power...  Hope it works...

very creative, I think you should be VERY careful. You are risking alot with your parents. I mean their trust and your right to privacy in someone elses house. I'm surprised no one has brought this up, but I would suggest waiting till you're on your own. But seeing how you're probably going to do it anyway, your design is great. Waterproof the inside with suran wrap.

Crappy translation: Roughly, not too fine-mesh. Into for instance the sort as is in the vapor departure hoods one uses. Is to serve for it the rough dust to separate.
