Q's for Anno

Anno, I thought I'd ask you since your the man and I know what you have produced. I have taken spores from previous types of mushrooms and took spore prints in canning jars. I have had the jars in my refer for some time now-About 6 mnths-and was wondering what would cause some to grow when innoculated to birdseed and some not. I did, however, kept them in the jars with pure spring water. There are plenty of spores floating around when sucked up into the syringe. Did they get too cold or what would seem to be the problem? I did have some success. Out of 10 jars I got 2 that produced. What can I do to up the success rate of the spores? Is this normal? I took some spore prints of Agaricus Campestris and want to do the same. Do they loose viability after awhile or are they just as good as if you keep a syringe for a couple of years. Does it really make a difference?

>Did they get too cold or what would seem to be the problem? I had syringes stored in the fridge for more than 2 years that were still viable.
In general I?d recommend storing spores in print form, dry, dark and cold.
Whay some jars survived and some not, if they were the same strain, is beyond me. One observation: old spores sometimes take much longer to germinate. Did you wait long enough?

>Did you wait long enough?<
Yea I think so. I waited for at least 2 weeks.
>Were they the same strain< Yea they were but different jars.
So the best way to store them is in dry cold then. I'll do that from now on. Do you think putting them in the water maybe rotted them?
I do appreciate your expert advice..... We just got some rain yesterday and I'm going hunting tonight in the pastures for some pans and whatever else I run into....

>Do you think putting them in the water maybe rotted them? It shouldn?t, but in any case spore prints keep longer than syringes.
