Computer issues... need help!
    #8848755 - 08/29/08 06:26 PM (15 years, 8 months ago)

I have a dell desktop and use Windows XP, I booted up my computer I get this error message with the deadly BLUE screen STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error}

The Windows Logon Process system process terminated unexpectedly with
a status of 0x00000001 (0x00000000 0x00000000).
The system has been shut down.

I think it has been attacked by malware.  I cannot restore the computer because I need file on it.

Can anyone help!!!

Did you try googling for that error? I did, and I found a solution:

How do I get to the command prompt?

How do you reboot in safe mode?

When the computer is turned on the windows XP logo's come on and then the blue screen.  What do I do?

When the computer starts up, hit F8 a bunch until it goes to a screen where you can select to go into safe mode.

Got F8 now, when it select safe mode with prompt it goes to blue screen again.  Right before this happened my AVG went off like crazy to threats, so I am almost positive this is a third party program/virus that is f'ing things up.

To took out the battery on the mobo when the computer was unplugged.  Then I replaced it and rebooted and not after the dell screen it goes to a black screen with a cursor in top left hand corner blinking.  I went a head and replace the bio battery with a brand new one.  No clue what to do now to get it working.  Found system cd's but won't that trash my files?

Any computer experts out there?  I beg you.

Put the old one back in and see if you can get to the f8 screen and select Last Known Good Configuration. If you can boot to windows back up all your important data and reinstall windows.

Do you have another computer you can slave your hard drive in?

I have another computer but it is a work lap top.  Don't really want to mess with it.  Cannot get the F8 working right now.

This is driving me crazy.  I don't know why just taking the battery out would only take me to the blank screen with blinking cursor after the dell icon.  I can only select F2 and F12 as of now.

When you get the F8 menu, have you tried "last known good configuration"?

Select f2 and make sure you can access your bios. Then see if you can set everything to default.

Yeah, you may be able to run a fixboot.

Don't see a place to set all setting back to default.

Press F2 and go into the bios and set the boot to order to cd first, it probably already is. Then throw your XP cd in and boot to it. When windows finishes loading you should have an option to load Recovery Console by selecting "R". Once in RC, type the command fixboot and reboot without going into the CD.

Will doing this wipe my data?

You wont by using recovery console unless you format the drive
which we are not doing...yet.
