we are finding liberty caps in northern minnesota....small patches 3 or 4 in small area and then some standing alone...caps are drying very blue and the stems a nice blue-green. I know that information on this website says minnesota does not have active mushrooms but I sure had a good time with these and a few others stems are long and white drying a blue-green and gills are drying a brownish color and leaving purplish/brown prints

A reliable source says they are fruiting in the PNW right now. I will verify this weekend with pics...I hope.

I am in the central valley. Send me a PM. Aren't you in Salem? I think we may have talked previously.
The report I have is from the Chehalis area.

I went out this morning to a park where there is an equestrian area, and looked around in the tall grass, but didn't have any luck. I think it's a little too dry here right now, but it's supposed to rain most of next week, so I'm feeling hopeful for my next venture.

I understand that P. semilanceata has a sticky gelatinous membrane that will separate from the cap, and that this a fairly reliable key to identifying them. Does anyone have a link to a picture of this membrane separation? Does this happen if you tear the cap, or does it just separate from the top of the cap. I've tried the search engine, and was unsuccessful. Can anyone help me out with this?

I just found a pretty big patch of semilanceata's wish i had a picture. If you notice charcoal grey or a smokey grey colored gills can be a certain way of classifying them. There are many kinds of magical mushrooms though. Best of Luck

Liberty caps are a cold weather fall mushrom. Not appearing in the spring.
Late July through September-October in Europe and until December-January in the fall in the PNW.

thanks ivi for this excellent thread!
it's still some time before the season but i'm getting ready to leave Israel and looking forward for FINALLY having the chance to search out some actives for my self... i never thought it'd be possible but since i'm going to live in spain (at least for a while) this thread will certainly come in handy!
it'd be a nice bump anyway right?
so maybe in a couple of months i can add something relevant
oh.... seems to be the season in Europe according to MJ, it's even more exciting now

this thread is certainly worth a bump
however it is not the season in europe yet, no matter what MJ says... not unless you are WAYYYYY north...
no reports in from the scandanavian hunters yet so the rest of europe please chill for 6 weeks until the cooler weather comes round

Marguzz's avatar pic right above your post is a perfect example of the "average" colour if there is such a thing...I have seen way darker like a chestnut brown (especially when very wet) to drying out to a straw-like hue... But i am not an expert !
