Mycelium is picky
    #883631 - 09/14/02 07:13 AM (21 years, 6 months ago)

I know of this story where this guy has a mycelial culture growing on a few little bits of compost in a jar, it is really white and fuzzy. It is perfect mycelium and is very healthy. When he transfers it to grain though it just won't grow on the grain. He keeps it in a humid warm environment but it still doesn't grow. What do you think the problem is in this story?

How long since the story began?

I started reading it a few days ago. Since then the original culture has perked back up and gotten real fuzzy again, and the peices of compost in the jar haven't shown any signs of growth.

I was thinking that the guy in this story should try using sterilized compost instead of rye berries, does anybody think that is a good idea?

No

You would use colonized Ry to spawn compost or poo.

I wouldn't sterilize compost.....I'd pasturize it.
