McCain confused over his personal wealth

Quote:
Asked how many houses he owns, McCain said: "I think - I'll have my staff get to you.
"It's condominiums where - I'll have them get to you," he said, before quitting the campaign trail for three days to strategise with top aides as both the candidates finalised their choice of running mate.
The senator's campaign did not immediately confirm the number of houses, but PolitiFact.com said it totalled seven - the family ranch in Sedona, Arizona and condominiums mostly owned in the name of McCain's wealthy wife Cindy.
Now, I don't really care how many houses he has - I get it, he's rich. So is Obama. But not knowing how many houses he has? That sort of thing is not going to endear himself with the voting public.
McCain: probably an okay politician, but a hopeless campaigner. Unless he learns to keep his mouth shut he's going to get flattened by Obama.

I don't know if he'll be flattened by any degree.
This is assuming most Americans read, aren't stupid, or can remember what happened the day before.
This isn't good for Obama. He plays intellectual, while McCain plays simple. This is not a good country for an intellectual trying to get voted into office.

Who the fuck needs seven houses? That's just wasteful IMO. I guess I would have a couple houses spread out in exotic locations all over the world, but at least I strive to be 100% self sufficient and green. If you have that much money and haven't totally eliminated or at least significantly reduced your impact on the environment then that's just plain wrong. I will vote third party, obama and mccain are crooks who fight progress.

There is no Democrat and Republican. There is a class of 'haves', 'have-nots', and ftw stupid 'have-nots'. The ftw stupid 'have-nots' make up 80% of the population and have influence in some of the most important democratic processes in the world.
And Obama also has money. I think it may be a good idea to put a brilliant poor person in charge, for a change. At least a change since the late 1700's, when people had a say in their government passed a multiple-choice test every two years.

At least both sides are playing the game. It makes it a lot easier for me to continue to have contempt for both of them.

Some (or all) of these houses belonged to his wife. They might have some type of agreement on who owns what. Legally, the husband and wife each own 50% of their combined assets, unless they go through their divorce proceedings or one died. I understood what he was saying. This thread is another good example of the inability of Republican haters to understand simple things. Instead, they believe the lies of the leftists.

If that was the case, why didn't he say so? He just said "I'll have my staff get to you" which, you must admit, does not look good.

I couldnt tell you where my money was when I used a broker, some things I knew, Exxon/Mobile, BP/Amoco, AOL/Time/Warner and a few others but the majority was floating around earning me money including some tied to real estate, I can tell you now, I own 3 homes and a large chunk of land and I dont have McCains money

Premarital assets vs. Postmarital assets, I own what I did prior to my marriage it was mine through out my marriage, while I was married what I acquired was still mine, there was no division of property at any point including during my divorce

How much are you worth wasn't the question and could be avoided even though everybody knows he's extremely wealthy. He should have just kept talking about his investment properties.

source? I was under the impression that most states don't recognize common ownership of anything amongst a couple that's married. I believe most states a husband could own everything and the wife nothing.
While divorce ends up with assets splited, this is just due to laws that require such, and that's only relevant to divorce.

looks like AZ is one of the few community property states. Generally, in community property states, money earned by either spouse during marriage and all property bought with those earnings are considered community property that is owned equally by husband and wife. Likewise, debts incurred during marriage are generally debts of the couple. At the death of one spouse, his half of the community property goes to the surviving spouse unless he left a will that directs otherwise. source
Maybe that's why Cindy had John sign a pre-nup.

A majority of the American people do not own seven homes. This man cannot comprehend how the middle class or even upper middle class American lives. How is he supposed to make decisions for the average American (aka: MOST of America)?! Regardless of whether or not he has this shared with his wife, he should know a little but more about himself.
Sorry, but it really is sad.
