Quick question about casings...

sup shroomers, if i were to have a colonized brick of substrate, and then i were to break it up into a big bag of 50/50 poo/straw mix, could i then make that into a casing? If i can use the poo/straw/mycelium mix in a casing, should i just use the standard ingredients? thanks.

Yes.

You can case any colonized substrate.

thanks for the help. And if i were to make a casing out of the poo, and my colonized substrate...all i would have to do is crumble the mycelium and substrate at the bottom, and then cover that with the poo, correct?

Mix the spawn and poo. Let colonize. Case with casing material ie 50/50 verm/peat.

Your "casing" layer should have zero nutrients in it. If it contains nutrients, the mycelium will colonize it instead of producing fruits.

You might be getting casing and spawning a little confused .

When you break up your colonized brick and mix it with a poo/straw mix , that would be spawning.

You don't really make a "casing" . You make a casing mix which you then apply to an already colonized substrate . Which would be your casing layer .Peep's do call these cased substrates "casings" though . It can be a little misleading .
