ID confirmation: Gymnopolis spectabilis?
    #8820795 -

I found these little guys this morning right after sunrise! I am almost positive they are Gym. Spectabilis!

Habitat: Woodchips - Found in park playground.

Gills: Yellow orange.

Stem: Yellow orange, width ranging from .5 cm to 1.5 cm.

Cap: Yellow-orange to a darker orange.

Spore print color: Could not get one, I think they dropped all of their spores before I picked them. But I could see that the spores were a lightish red color, orange maybe.

Bruising: None that I could tell.

Location: Central Texas, DFW.

If I am correct, what is a good dry dose of these?

There are quite a few VERY toxic look-alikes to that mushroom.

Be careful, friend.

As for dose, it's supposed to have a pretty low psilocybin content.  If you're 100% positive they are laughing jim's then something around 5-6 dry grams is probably reasonable.

Would you happen to know them? If so, some links would be appreciated.

if you couldnt get a print i wouldnt even try to consume those, the spore print is very valueable for the ID

Not Gymnopilus nor spectabilis as far as I can see.  Bigger pics would help.  Many Gyms are famous for growing in clumps (caespitose clusters).

In response to Senor_Hongos, they were growing in a cluster.

I think the case is pretty much closed here.  If you can't print the damn things don't eat them.

Well, I could see some spores in the gills still, and they were rusty brown in color.

I read the link that was posted, and everything about the mushrooms I found point to Gym. spectablils. They look exactly like these.

Anyways, I guess I won't do anything with them. Seems pointless.

Well, if you'll notice, the pics in the link don't look like your pictures.  I didn't seen any fibrillose zones on the stem for one thing.  Never mind the color was is completely different (maybe due to the lighting)

Better safe than sorry.

Definitely not Gymnopilus spectabilis.  Its not even Gymnopilus.  Its hard to say what it is without knowing the spore print color and having better pictures.  Try collecting them again and make the print on tinfoil so you can see it even if it is a light color.

You should be looking for Gymnopilus spectabilis on dead logs in the forest.

I've found more Gymnopilus spectabilis on dead stumps in the city.  Perhaps it is a local phenomemon.  I've also found them in wood chips around scrubs.

If these fruit again this year I'll create a thread dedicated to it.

I wish he would have posted better pictures.  I would have liked to know what they are.

Well, I found them growing directly out of woodchips near some forest. Anyways, I will go back this weekend and hope there is more.

Thread killed until then.
