Why would anyone who's not in the 3rd grade think you're gay? - Pffft, I worked in an area of manhattan where the Tranie/Straight ratio was 50 /50 , Some of those asian guys look pretty convincing. 
Is the book good? Does it give any 'facts' about what causes a person to become a Trannie? - Iread once that Tranvestisim is a symtom of a deeper psycholigcal disorder, usually brought on by a traumatic experience.
Where as Transgenders are thought to be 'born' that way (by some), and are not comfy in thier assigned roles.
This topic has always fascinated me. I could not put myself in the shoes of a person who feels like they are trapped in a body that does not belong to them.

I read a short article in Playboy, about a court case filed in the UK by a transgender. The case went through and sex changes are now covered by Britians socialized medicine policy, because it is a disorder that they cannot help.
