Myco grow Bag from Sporeworks log *completed*

Spores: 1 syringe of P. cubensis, Treasure Coast strain ordered from sporeworks. Spawn: 3 Myco Environment bags from Sporworks Sterilization procedure: My cat soaked a paper towel in 70%(has better antiseptic properties than 90% or 91% isopropyl alcohol) isopropyl(rubbing) alcohol. Wiped down the injection site and let it dry. My cat then took the alcohol doused paper towel and put it over the injection site. My cat also wiped down the needle with alcohol and used a butane lighter to sterilize the tip of the needle. Innoculation procedure: He stuck the needle through the paper towel and into the injection at a steep angle so he could see the needle through the bag, and injected about 2.5 cc?s all around the area of the injector site. He did this to all three bags. Incubation: He had 5 collapsed cardboard boxes stacked in a pile with a reptile heater under it in a closable cabinet. The reptile heater is extremely hot, about 120 degrees so to spread out the heat the boxes are used. He had a thermometer on top of the boxes with one bag on top of the thermometer and the rest are around it. The temperature is a constant 86 degrees. September 3: Bags innoculated and put on top of the boxes. September 9: first signs of mycelium arising near the injection site. It?s kind of hard to tell, but the white mycelium is visible next to the brown substrate. September 10: more mycelium growth, but nothing exciting yet, he?ll keep you posted with more pictures later. 9/12 Updated pics. This one has started to spread left and right. Slowly but surely. He don?t think this one has budged, any ideas on how to speed up the spread on this one? This one is in the same exact environment the other are in, this doesn?t make any sense. 9/19 update: That one bag that was really dry has been injected with lots of water and reinocculated because it wasn?t going anywhere. The other two bags are spreading well. He has broken up the mycelium and spread them throughout the bag.

Not to be nosy but what was the shipping time on what you bought? I am wondering because i got virtually the same thing, and am waiting still..... otherwise, looking good! The only possible comment might to put a little bit more between the heat and bags to keep the temp measured in the low 80s-higher 70s

Well it took about a day for sporeworks to process the order, and another 2 to ship the order, and another 5 for UPS to finally deliver it. My cat would have rather gone with USPS than UPS. As for the temperature, I'm going to have to say that I'm going to leave the temperature as it is. He has heard that a high 70's and low 80's is good.....for growing mushrooms, not mycelium. He will remove the heating pad when the bag is fully colonized.

Well I have had more contams at higher temps, my experiance with it at least, i am aware the recommended temps are from 84-86 but if air temp is 86 its no guarentee that the substrate isnt past 90, you know? Ive just had many bad experiance of cooking jars to death, thinking they were mid 80s, maybe your setup is better. ....i live in canada, maybe thats why its taken so long

The temperature between the top of the box and the bottom of the bag is 86, he moved the temperature monitor up and it's about 81 at the top of the substrate, it's going to be fine, hes not going to kill off the mycelium

One thing you could do is wait another day or so then massage the mycelium into the spawn so it spreads it around. This will dramatically speed it up.

Ok, he thinks he'll try that. He was going to break up the mycelium all around so it would spread through the entire bag, but my jars didn't take nearly this long, which made me wonder. Thanks. He wants to know if anyone else have any suggestions?

One thing you can deffinatelly do is to stop taking photos and checking on the bags everyday. It`s a BAD thing. m-kay?

Just a quick update, the first two bags that were actually spreading are doing well. The 3rd bag that didn't show any changes is still the exact same. He looked at the bags that were doing well and there was droplets of water on the side of the bag telling me that it was nice and wet inside. The bag that wasn't growing was dry as a bone, no signs of any liquid water anywhere. He doesn't know what he's going to do about the third bag.

9-24, One bag has fully colonized and has started to pin. WHEE! The other bags's colonization status is 50%, 3%, 0%.

He thinks it might have started to pin, but now that he looked at it some more, it doesn?t look like it. It looks like it?s only the rye. Well he decided to cold shock it to make sure that the pins are growing, but while I?m at it, he might as well dunk it. Didn?t know the cake floats.

His other bag has fully colonized. Here's both of them next to each other. The one on the right has been dunked, notice the more flufflyness of th mycelium.

After reading that beer was good for shrooms, he decided to dunk one bag in a beer/water/hydrogen peroxide solution. he used Michelob Amber Bock. he nuked the beer in the the microwave to burn off the CO2 and the alcohol.
