I wish I could recall the stalk, I know maybe myrtle, eh.
It's the most common graft stalk they use.

No, someone ID'd it for me before, I just can't remember the name.

If you look through my threads on this part of the forum you'll see it.

awesome, mine looks exactly the same, except no spines
Whats neat is that several of the branches broke of and rooted horizontally in the soil

you mentioned the spines, i think that they are only on the flower buds (if that is what they are) those are not new pups forming anyway...
never seen mine flower, if they are indeed flower buds then they must have aborted because they have been on there a long time...

i doubt the caterpillar was doing any eating, they are pretty tough skinned cacti, he was removed anyway

It's a Japanese cultivar called Astrophytum myriostigma var. columnare cv.minima (cv. HUBOKI). There to form's "HUBUKI" and "HUBOKI" which both look very similar to each other

It's monstrous plant meaning it has mutation in some form. They will never grow flower.

interesting...
you seem to know more about this cultivar than anyone else, so if they are not an attempt at flowering, then what are the growths with spines?

i figured that they are not pups, but maybe i am wrong about that...
