Laptop acting weird
    #8815213 - 08/23/08 11:07 AM (15 years, 8 months ago)

So whenever I reboot my laptop, the time and date is reset to 0:00 April 26, 2007. I also can't get it to sync up with any internet time servers, it just keeps giving me errors.

I haven't updated my Norton's in several months. Is it possible that this is a virus? If not, anyone know how to fix this problem?

Thanks in advance!

I would try resetting bios to defaults.

It sounds like your CMOS battery is dying or dead. Your CMOS battery, typically located on on the top or the bottom of your motherboard, keeps the Real Time Clock (RTC) so even if your notebook is powered off for long periods of time it keeps accurate time.

Do a quick search on how to access your specific notebook CMOS battery and that should take care of you. These batteries do go out, so you should research how to replace these for all your PCs.

The issue your describing does not sound like a virus.

Nice, thanks Wronguy. I tried resetting the bios time, and that still didn't do anything. I'll look into the CMOS battery.

Much appreciated!
