Is "Gluten free, stone ground, whole grain brown rice flour" good enough for BRF PF tek?
    #8814081 - 08/23/08 03:12 AM (9 years, 6 months ago)

I just realized the ingredients for the BRF I got from the local health store is made from 'whole grain brown rice'; is this going to be good enough nutrition for my cakes? Should I look for long grain brown rice and grind it myself? The box does clearly state "BROWN RICE FLOUR", so that kinda threw me off.

Thanks to anyone who replies

The rice type is fine but the fact that its gluten free means that you have alot less nutrients, gluten is a starch/complex carb which means you might run into low flush problems.

Just go to any grocery store and buy a bag of brown rice--or long-grain natural rice.  The flour will work, but making it yourself works much better.

My grocery store only has "short grain brown rice", which I heard has a higher starch content and isn't as good as long grain.

Can anyone confirm/deny this?

rice its self is gluten free but most rice is sprayed with a vitamin solution that does contain gluten. This brf just wasnt treated and should work fine.

You can just grind up brown rice in the blender or a coffee grinder and it'll end up working better than store-bought flour - the mixture will be a lot more 'fluffy' and is easier to colonize, in my experience.

The rice flour you have should be fine - as long as the flour is made from the whole grain, there's enough nutrients to colonize.
