Seeking a finger that points to the Moon.

So...
Here I am, in the midst of an adventure. I'm out of school and in the real world. At least that's what all the grown-ups say. I've been at it for 2.5yrs, and I feel like i've taken a step back. I'm set in my routine, get up, go to work (that i hate), go home, sleep, repeat.
I was told this was success, the corporate life. hey! i have a good job, and potential to move up! Then why do I feel so unhappy?
I've gone through a rough time, lost a few friends, lost a lover, lost that smile on my face that used to keep me going.
I guess my question is this: How the hell do you stay on the grind when you feel like you're the last of your kind? I cared so much about enlightenment, about knowing that I didn't know, and the fun of finding out what the hell all this was about!!! I was quite good at it actually.
this life is eating at me. i am rotting.

Last kind of what? I hear this all the time around here.

As far as I know, I am the only current shroomerite who went to Woodstock '68 so I can actually claim "last of kind" status.

A few people on a forum on the internet will classify as last of their kind.
Not many people around here appreciate that the world is. They are more concerned at what they are in the world. Thats what it means.

To discover the source of your pain, you must find out what false assumption that you have adopted as true and examine it.

Can one truely do this on their own?
Why would alice stay in the rabbit hole, if she knew it was her who created the illusion to begin with.

Why work the grind? I know I never will again. It really does eat at you, but contrary to what you have been taught it is not essential to life.
You can do anything why settle for a mediocre monotonous job in a greedy capitalistic society?
You only get one life live it how you want.

Basic math: pain = actual reality - projected reality
You believe things 'should be' a certain way and they are not and this causes you discomfort.
Reality is as it is and no amount of will change it. Accept the way things are and gently steer towards your vision of how you would like them to be knowing in advance that you will never arrive.

I agree with the first part life is not a free ride and it will suck at times no matter what you do, but I dont believe he should just roll over and take it like I said not necessary for life.
No matter what you do there will be struggles but if you are truly unhappy do something else.

If life were only that simple. The tree of family has it's roots all over me.
I have to look out for them too.
What i'm basically getting at is: Where is the point where you live for you, can not for everyone else. I'm done making my mom happy, and i am finished following my dad. I guess it just takes courage to break, like the buddha.

If life were only that simple. The tree of family has it's roots all over me.
Wake up! It is simple until you make it difficult. A family tree is an idea. They are just people like the rest of humanity. If they are best friends and you have much good things in common then it's worth hanging with them, if not then not. Don't tell me it's complex because I left my family and it was the best choice of my life. It's all in your mind.
In your mind, in your mind One foot on Jacob's ladder And one foot in the fire And it all goes down in your mind
Living at the bottom of the stairs in your life Never a smile knocking on your door The air is blue and so are you Prehistoric monsters on the floor
Last verse of your last song And God don't hear dead men The end of the line is in your mind And you'll be staying in
In your mind, in your mind Bone for bone and skin for skin Eye for eye and tooth for tooth Heart for heart and soul for soul Somebody said what is true
Lock it up and close it down The sound of morning like a dove High beyond the rattle and roar Look into the face of love
In your mind, in your mind One foot on Jacob's ladder And one foot in the fire And it all goes down in your mind
In your mind, in your mind Sunday words are back again And you'll eat your fun of the middleman's pie But just a piece you understand You'll get the rest up in the sky
Praise and glory, wounded angel Shuffling round the room Eternity is down the hall And you sit there bending spoons In your mind, in your mind Father, son and holy ghost Sacrificial drops the pain On a silver planet cross Sanctification on a chain
They say redemption draws knives Storms of silence from above Stop your ears close your eyes Try to find the face of love
In your mind, in your mind One foot on Jacob's ladder And one foot in the fire And it all goes down in your mi

Whose permission do you need to do what you want? It's you that is withholding that permission, don't blame your family.
Looking out for your family doesn't have to mean conforming to their expectations. Not everyone's family helps them be themselves. If your family demands an apology for you living your life, cut them loose. You only get one life, and it belongs entirely to you. I suspect it makes you comfortable to know that your choices don't make mom nervous. How important is that comfort to you? Worth your life?
Life is not a dress rehearsal, it's LIVE!
You are on the air.
