I'm pretty sure it's in the same spot, you have to click on "Advanced" under the security tab

1. Turn off Simple File Sharing:
a. Click Start, and then click My Computer.
b. On the Tools menu, click Folder Options, and then click the View tab.
c. Under Advanced Settings, click to clear the Use simple file sharing (Recommended) check box, and then click OK.

After that, it shows up on the properties window for an attached drive.

Is simple file sharing available in 2K? I thought it was an XP thing.

Ah, no it wasn't.  They added it into XP to make things appear simple.

(I just loaded up 2k in vmware to check.)

> so how do i fix this shit?

You have to do two things.

1) You have to take ownership of the old drive and all files and folders (child objects, whatever).

2) You have to change permissions so that the new owner can access the objects.

Unfortunately, you haven't been specific enough for us to know what you have tried, what error messages, results, or anything else you have gotten.  You have to give us something to work with if you want any help.  "It didn't work."  "It still didn't work."  "Why isn't it working?"  "What do I do now?" isn't going to get you anywhere.  Not because we are asses, but because you aren't given us enough information to help troubleshoot where the problem lies.

If you want help, give us details!  The more detailed you are, the better.  The last time I did this, it took me three or four tries, and I kind of know what I am doing.  (or at least I thought I did, until it took three or four tries )

Tools or not, the picture I posted above shows where you need to go to take ownership and change permissions for a new drive.  The picture is from a fairly clean win2k install.

Right click on the new disk, properties, security tab, advanced button, owner tab, take ownership as the current administrator, uncheck the allow box, check the reset permissions/enable propagation box, apply, etc, etc, etc...

Yeah you don't need to go into the tools menu because you don't need to turn off simple file sharing. Just continue with the rest of the instructions, as Seuss said

*laugh*  You are getting closer... same shit I went through a few weeks ago.  I never did figure out what I changed, or didn't change, to get it to work.  Try again with the ownership/permissions BS, but do it on the last folder you can access (djbackout).  After pounding your head into the wall for a few hours, it will eventually all the sudden work... at least it did for me.  I feel your pain.

When it did work for me, I remember thinking... @#$#!  I didn't do anything different?!  Why did it work this time!?

At least now you have a light at the end of the tunnel.

(My guess is that you have taken ownership, but don't have permissions... only a guess, and I very well could be wrong.  Be sure you are propagating both ownership AND permissions... go back and forth... and back and forth... and...)
