my entire batch of colonizing jars just got contaminated with maggots. So heres my question. If i seal the jars to kill the maggots will the mycelia survive? Any other methods to kill maggots in colonizing jars?

PC them and dump the jars. Or make an outdoor bed.

Maggots? How the fuck did that happen? If you put ANYTHING in those jars that would attract/breed maggots, you aren't getting any good fruits.
Did you put old ham in there? How the hell did that happen?
Or do you mean something else?

Wow. First time I've ever heard of maggots getting into a jar. What, pray tell, would make flies want to attack your jar, and how the could they get into it to lay maggot eggs? BRF has a dry verm layer, grain jars have at least polyfill or tyvek, or foil, and needle holes are very likely too small to let a fly get in. My guess is you just left the jar open to whatever, and/or didn't sterilize, and used hamburger as the substrate. What was the entire substrate mix btw???

Maggots make those little flies that attack mushrooms.Pretty common in wild mushrooms, I don't know how they would get in a jar, he may just have loose foil lids with a layer of verm but that wouldn't keep flies from digging down and laying eggs. Try Tyvek on jars with screw on rings next time and seal injection points with micropore tape.

i pc'd at 15psi for 45 minutes per jar. some type of fly must have laid eggs through the inoculation holes, though they were covered in foil and placed in a carboard box.
Edit: Substrate mix was basic BRF and Verm

it needs gas exchange or else the co2 level will rise and it will decline in growth till it just stops i believe

Willow's right... But maggots dude? That's sick man toss them outside get a patch goin. I wouldn't eat anything that came off those cakes, and besides when maggots get older they turn into flies and create more maggots, so it would be asking for an insurgency in your fruiting chamber.
Are you talking about fungus gnat larvae??? The really hard to see, almost microscopic maggots, or the real fly maggots that you find in a rotting carcass?... Either way I don't know how you'd get rid of maggots on a cake without killing the mycellium, and they'll inevitebly turn into flies.

I dont know what thye are, but they are certainly not microscopic. Im just wondering if sealing the jars for a day or two (long enough to suffocate the maggots) would also kill the mycelium.

to answer it it wouldn't matter. the fact is they are their and it is contaminated and you should just start over. if you were to kill them they would sit in their rotting and decomposing which is asking for further contams. not to mention do you want to eat your shrooms that have absorbed whatever was in those maggots?

mycelia can survive in a completely sealed jar for over 3 days, which would be long enough to kill the maggots i would say... but for the love of christ man, fucking trash that gnarly mess. They'll rot and contam further anyway, besides the fact that its just absolutely fucking nasty.

You do know sitting your jars next to a space heater for half a day doesn't count as sterilizing, right?

Im going to keep them and hope that they survive until they are fully colonized. Then i can probably kill the maggots with a 24 hour bleach dunk

I just thought i'd update everyone on the maggot situation. I sealed the injection holes with electrical tape for 24 hours, then switched to masking tape. At first they seemed to have died, but i later found more squirming around. Now after about a week, the maggots seemed to have died on their own! Furthermore, because it is still a very clean environment, the maggots do not appear to be rotting. And now that i think about it, wont the mycelium just digest them anyway?
