Last time I grew I had a cake that was producing many odd mushrooms. Some would grow upside down, like the cap would be connected to the cake and the stalk would be growing out the top, and also some that grew with messed up caps and exposed gills. I was wondering what caused this, contamination? genetics? enviroment? I dont have any pictures because it was quite a while ago, but Im just curious and any information would be welcome, thanks ahead of time!
quite frankly I thought it was freakin' neat. haha... What was weird is everyone on that cake was a little bit different. I wish I had taken pictures, the upside down one was perfect, once you picked it you couldn't tell that's the way it grew, minus a small bit of discoloring on the top.
I'm not sure if other people suggest it and I wouldn't try it based solely on my experiences, but my roommate ate them and he was fine. He was my test subject, haha...he'd try anything(I never gave him anything I thought would hurt him though!). I ate them too, didn't have any problems at all, i figured there wouldn't be any problems, but at the time was too dumb to do any research.
