My car got stolen...

My parents were going to take my registration from my car this morning to go get all our of cars registered with city parking permits. My dad called me a bunch of times and woke my ass up because he couldn't find my car. I went outside and couldn't find it either, walked around the block with no sign of it. We called to check if it got towed but nope, they hadn't heard of it.
Anyways, we filed a missing car report, and I'm just about to call insurance and give them the approximate value of everything in the car, including about 30 cd's, my bmx bike, a basketball, a pair of nike 6.0's, cd player....I've only lived in this city for like a month too.

iirc, you don't get covered for shit in the car unless you "pre-registered it" with the company. ie, a CD player that you installed, a book of CDs, whatever... I think you're only covered for whatever you TOLD them you keep in your car.
I could be wrong.
Wish someone would steal my fucking car.

Why? Maybe we can work something out...

Hah...
I don't really want my car stolen.
But if I did, it would be because I don't really want a car anymore and it would be easier than doing all the maintenance to get it ready to sell.
Not to mention I'm pretty bad at motivation and have been SAYING I want to get rid of my car for like 8 months now and still haven't managed to make it happen.

I believe they have an allowance of up to $500 for unreported items in the vehicle. I don't know that for sure, but still check it out. I'm sure it's different from policy to policy.

That sucks.
Crime is rampant nowadays.
One of the people who lives in my building but on the street level just had his screen cut open and the contents of his house stolen the other day.
And I don't even bother to lock my car doors, they'll just smash the windows.
What can you do.

Nope, insurance covers everything missing in the car but there is a 500$ deductible. I had 30 retail cd's approx 15$ each, a 400$ bmx bike, a camping tent, pair of nike 6.0's, cd deck, a basketball, bunch of clothes...luckily the 30 cd's pretty much covers the deductible...
I live in New Haven, CT but in a very nice area. Crime isn't bad where I live but I hear at least a few resonating gunshots every night. To be honest, I hope I don't get it back, I had a 97 Honda Civic ex coupe with a bluebook value of 6 grand. With the money back from that I could easily buy a nicer car, plus get re-imbursed for all the stuff that was inside it when it was stolen.

Alright cool, that makes more sense. I guess when it happened to my buddy back in high school he didn't have 500 dollars worth of shit in his car, so he got screwed out of the value of his CDs and CD player.

Same shit happened to me! We got the insurance company to gives us some money, and then the truck was found like 2 weeks later! So we got to keep the money, and I had my truck back.

That's what I've been wondering about...if the car is found...wasn't it illegal for you to keep the money and the car?

I just talked to a city cop who said after if the car hasn't been located after 30 days, then insurance will make the payments for the loss of items and automobile.
30 days without a car?!?! That's harsh...I'm pretty reliant on my car seeing as I moved 45 minutes away from all my friends and I was spending every weekend up there until this one. Ehhh at least school starts in a week, that should make the waiting go by quickly.

Yeah, maybe back in 2001. A 11 year old Civic would barely fetch you half that now.

Yea, that sounds extremely high. My brother bought his '97 Civic two years ago in good condition for $3500.

Peep the bluebook you think I'm making that up? 1997 honda civic with 160,000 miles is estimated at 5,950 in the kelly blue book...I bought mine 2 years ago in good condition for 4,000, so I'm not saying that's what you'd buy it for from somebody, but that's what a used car dealership would ask based on blue book prices, which are the standard measuring stick for used car prices.
Keep in mind there has been a surge of interest in 4 cylinder cars since gas prices have been getting higher.
