chromatography (may be advanced, move if needed)
    #8809423 - 08/22/08 05:12 AM (10 years, 1 month ago)

so, i asked this in a response, but feel it needs to be a topic that can be seen by anyone looking at the board: does anyone have chromatography testing supplies or links to posts or other pages with results of some tests?

the tests i am interested in involve questions that are asked here pretty much daily, so i am assuming no one has done them yet. if this is true, and you don't do it first, my friend will be doing these tests as soon as he can afford the equipment. although i realize these questions get answered often, many times with the same answer, i am interested in objective evidence, rather than results someone decided on while tripping.

the questions i would like answered through the chemical analysis are:

1- do different substrates cause potency differences?

2- do different multispore "strains" have potency  differences?

3- does potency fluctuate between flushes?

4- does exposure to heat affect potency?

once again, i realize that many of you have subjective knowledge and answers to all of these questions, but i am only interested in tangible, testible proof.

while this is a drunken rant of a post, i really would like answers. if not, my friend may have money for test supplies in the next couple months, so he will deal with it.

these questions had been asked in a thread just yesterday (except about chromatography)

potency is ginetic.

None of our members have a GC to the best of my knowledge, and those with access to one at work or school aren't about to dare taking psilocybe mushrooms there.

you could test the heat question.

these questions are asked constantly, i know. having concrete results independent of human opinion would put an end to any debate.

i read on erowid that there are 3 different ways to test. i can't remember what they are all called, but i know that the materials for one of the tests run a couple hundred dollars or so. my friend is going to invest in this as soon as possible and will try to answer these questions. it seems like a good investment just for the fact that you could test all of your isolates.

also, though, about potency being genetic, that is definitely true, but i know i have read something about the second flush being more potent, or older mycellium, basically in whatever form. like after grain transfers or something. anyway, if this is true i would want to run tests to find out the degree of potency increase, and determine if there is a "sweet spot" at a certain point, say on a second grain to grain transfer left an extra week before initiating fruiting or something to that extent.

i don't know, just typing my thoughts

Your friend can afford chromatography equipment?

if my understanding is correct and he can get the needed equipment for a few hundred, then he can get it in about a month.

it may not be chromatography, but it is nearly as accurate. there is a massive article about it on erowid that mentions 3 different tests you can do. when i have time to read it all i'll look it up again and let you know.

Question 3 has been examined.  See:

Bigwood, J. and Beug, MW. Variation of psilocybin and psilocin levels with repeated flushes (harvests) of mature sporocarps of Psilocybe cubensis (Earle) Singer.  J Ethnopharmacol.  5, pp. 287 - 291.  (1982)

if someone's school had a spare gcms sitting on a pallet for a year, not used at all, and he were to inquire about purchasing said gcms, would that be a red flag?

It'd be as red as you make it. Are you good at coming up with alternative cover stories and presenting them in a believable manner? Or will you stutter and sweat and look like you have a basement full of anthrax?

And the answer was yes but unpredictably. "3- does potency fluctuate between flushes?"
