Rye grass seed jars

Alright, so my patience paid off and my rye grass seed arrived today. I prepped the quart jars using the 300ml seed and 150ml water recipe (I used distilled water) and PCed at 15psi for 1 hour. Once pressure had dissipated, I shook the still-hot jars to discover that the seeds had hardened into one large mass; that only a small layer on top actually moved at all during the shaking. Is this bad? Should I not inoculate these jars and try again? If so, what did I do wrong? This is my first mexicana grow (I plan on sticking with invitro sclerotia, btw) and I really dont wanna screw it up. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Try giving the jars a whack against a bike tyre or something similar, you really need to give them a hard whack.
see how you go

um that shouldn't have happened. first off you dont want to open the pc until your jars have completly cooled. im almost positive those jars are shot. get some rye berries from your local health food store and follow RR's advice in this link for preparing them. its fail safe. it might work for your rye grass also, i dont know ive never tried rye grass. http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/6756240/page/0/fpart/1/vc/1/nt/2

Gypsum friend. Check RRs posts or drop over to his DVD site for a run down.

that's not the sole purpose of why those jars clumped though

Here's how I recommend you prepare rye grass seed. RR

Um, B4B, I've read in a number of sources (including this sites FAQ) that the jars should be shaken while hot to properly distribute moisture. Thanks for the link, guys, I'll just try again with some gypsum and coffee this time and hope the sob's don't clump. I know the coffee is to increase yields, but is the gypsum to prevent clumping, or what's it's benefit?

Oh, and I don't live near any gardeny-type stores, but there's a homebrew place like a block away. The gypsum they have there is "Calcium Sulfate Gypsum" for softening water. Is that the same thing? Thanks again guys.

Yea, it's the same thing, but food grade gypsum will be a lot more expensive. You can take a sheet of drywall and smash it into a powder and use if you want. Sheetrock is gypsum.
The gypsum will add calcium and sulfur, both mycelium nutrients, as well as to help prevent clumping. RR
