Lines For Quiting
    #8807941 - 08/21/08 10:36 PM (10 years, 2 months ago)

So I plan on quitting my unpaid apprenticeship tomorrow in the early morning. Since its over an hours drive to get there I plan on just doing it over the phone.
Im not really sure how to go about it though, so far all Ive come up with is this pathetic bullshit:

"I wont be able to come in to intern anymore. I got a job offer over here and I wont be able to make the commute anymore."

(I feel wierd saying anymore twice.)

And if they question why I couldnt get a job over in that city Im just gonna say that I have been looking but I havent gotten any replies (the truth!), the only reply I have gotten was over here.

Any help to tighten this up?  :ashamed:

That sounds fine. Who cares how many times you say anymore you won't have to talk to them again.

You could just say "I quit" and leave it at that. Its not like you HAVE to offer them any explanation.

I'd do it in person. The whole point of an internship is to gain experience. I sure wouldn't give you a good recommendation if you couldn't even come it and tell me in person.

Yea Im also afraid of that too. Im afraid of when I apply for a job that they are going to call them for references.
I dont want to bother with the 2 weeks notice because I cant stand that place and cant handle going back again. I dont know...

Could I just leave it out...? Ive been taking college classes on the side, could I just say that Ive been going to school and not even mention the apprenticeship.

The more I write the worse I feel... Im such a douche

if you don't want your new job to call them, then i wouldn't even mention it.  it's very likely they'll want to know a little more about you from a third party.

If you want to use them for a reference, then by god you'd better put in a 2 weeks notice.

I interview people with the same attitude as you all the time. I hope I never slip up and hire one of them.

Do all the people you interview come from an apprenticeship that they hate so much theyd rather eat their own face than go back?

Yes, some of them.

Then again, some of them are adults, who take responsibility for their lives.

What could possibly be so hard about your job that you cant give them a 2 week notice, and a letter of intention?

Verbal abuse. Being called a dumbass and a retard. Being yelled at for things that I didnt even do.

As I mentioned in my first post, I cant stand the place, it stresses me the hell out, its a hell of a commute through hellish traffic, and Im not even getting paid.

Im not going to tell you what to do, but I would confront them directly to their face the first time it happens. I demand respect from anyone I work with.

I would still go in, and tell them directly to their face. If its as bad, and undeserving as you say, I probably wouldn't give them a 2 week notice either. I would however confront them about it, and contact their supervisor. Dont throw away the time you've spent there, experience is the main thing someone looks at when evaluating you for employment.

Request a letter of recommendation from them, that way you dont have to worry about it latter.

If I do go its just going to be to let them know that I quit.
As far as confronting goes I wont be doing any of that... And seeing as how she (the manager) is one of the owners of the studio (its a small place) there arent any supervisors.
