Today I Installed Ubuntu
    #8806947 - 08/21/08 05:42 PM (15 years, 7 months ago)

It's not the first time installing or using Ubuntu, I've been using it exclusively ever since I was first introduced to Her

The first thing I do these days after a fresh install is get all available updates. Then I install my GFX drivers. With the latest version of Ubuntu It's about a two minute or less process. I don't even need to explain the process to anyone of you that go out and install Ubuntu for you to do it, Ubuntu will gladly show you how once you connect to the Interwebs.

Third step is I install http://ultamatix.com/ (ultamatix-1.8.0-3_all.deb)

It really helps speed up the process of getting all the different apps im going to use every day.

I was told about Ubuntu a while back, is it really all that good?
Currently I am switching back and forth from Firefox and Opera.
Why is ubuntu any better?

Ubuntu is an Operating system just as Windows XP is an operating system. Firefox and Opera are "Browsers"

You can run Firefox or Opera on Ubuntu Linux

gentoo linux motherfucker!

ubuntu is alright, i used it when i first started using linux, too much unnecessary crap installed by default though

first things I do is rearrange the desktop to how i have grown accustomed, which entails installing xfce, awn, conky, and usually compiz, then all media related apps i use (mplayer, amarok, k3b, gimp) then all p2p apps (deluge, nicotine, gnutella)

If you guys get a chance try using enlightenment desktop, it blows xfce/kde/gnome/flux/black away.

I have e-17 on my gentoo install, its nice, but nowhere near as stable/functional/customizable as xfce which is my normal x session on gentoo and slackware

the only thing 'prettier' about it are the animated icons, but lack of compiz/awn/screenlets is not out-wieghed by twinkling menu buttons

No viruses (technically there are something like 20, you have a better chance of death by tampon then getting a virus on linux)

Faster (to boot up, to start programs, etc)

Free!

Secure (updates come out extremely fast when vulnerabilities are discovered)

Stable (no blue screens so long as you don't install unstable software *cough* compiz *cough*)

potential to be WAY better looking then windows and even mac osX (*cough* compiz *cough*)
