Stalled fruiting...with pix
    #8807000 - 08/21/08 07:52 PM (9 years, 6 months ago)

These cakes and the accompanying small ice cream tub have been out to fruit for 19 days now.  They are being fanned and misted lightly 4 times a day (6 on weekends since I'm not working) and stay in the low to mid 70's throughout the night and day.  My hydrometer stays consistently at 99% as well.  Notice the 'blueing' that can just be barely seen under the surface of the myc?  How about the strange yellowish colored excretion on the top of the one cake?  I'm pretty sure it is myc piss and I'm thinking that the 'blueing' is bruising maybe--perhaps not enough water?  Do you think my light misting was perhaps too light?

Also notice the amount of 'aerial myc' that has grown around the cakes since birth--is this normal?  It has a strangely cauliflower like appearance.

Any help would be greatly appreciated since I have another project that is quickly coming along and will be into fruiting soon as well, but that's a story for another post.  If need be I could put these out in the side yard patch I planned on using for old cakes and tubs but dammit I'd so much like to fruit these things.

Thanks again, this forum is the greatest.

It looks like you have some verm on those cakes, so I am guessing that you did dunk and roll.
Maybe try to dunk them again.

You sir are correct.  I dunked 24 hrs and rolled in verm.  Am I correct in assuming that the blueing is from dehydration?

edit:  no offense intended if you are not a sir

Well I wouldnt go as far as calling me a sir but yes I am male.
I just dont wear a suit and tie:lol:
No offense taken.
Yes the bluing is caused by either dehydration or from being handled.
I would dunk it again for at least 12 hours but probably 24 would be better.

Thanks creekfreek, that's just what I'm gonna do then.

Looks like my other project will be into fruiting by Sunday at the latest.  I hope I can figure out these fruiting issues.

You don't think it could be my light could it?  I'm using a standard cfl augmented by filtered sunlight from a slightly shaded window.  From what I've read, light really isn't the most important pinning trigger, so I would figure that I've got enough.

Thoughts?

There's no green really, though as I said, there is a small amount of myc piss on the tops of a couple of them, that might be making them look green.  The camera isn't the greatest (3.3mp) as well.  They certainly don't look as beautiful as they did when birthed way back when I will say that.  Interestingly enough, the small ice cream tub doesnt seem to be exhibiting the same coloring or any discoloration at all really.  That ice cream tub is simply 5 of those cakes you see crumbled and then cased with about a quarter inch of verm.

Sitting here thinking about it, I should probably add a few bits of info that may be pertinent to the problem here.

These cakes are from small 4oz jars that I bought from an absolutely shitty online source (non-shroomery sponsor) before I discovered the shroomery.  I tried at first to noc them with a syringe from the same source--it was totally non-viable, didn't do a damn thing at all.  After 2 weeks I went ahead and re-inoculated them (against many recommendations) with a syringe from a sponsor and after that they took off like rockets.

My newer project, using materials acquired exclusively from shroomery sponsors seems to be progressing in a much faster fashion.  It also makes me wish I'd not begun with cakes and just went with grain to spawn to begin with.
