lost apreciation for music?
    #8806416 - 08/21/08 05:48 PM (10 years, 3 months ago)

as a long time musician, my ear for music is constantly evolving. More and more i just want to hear orchestral music like kronos quartet or classical. I used to be able to get high and listen to records for hours, but even now it's tedius for more than an hour. I cant even remember the last time i listened to an album from beginning to end.

im glad i can apreciate the complexity in forms of music i didnt understand before. at the same time my entire record collection seems like a photo album i dont care to look at.

any other musicians go through this?

maybe you're being too elitist and not allowing yourself to enjoy the simpler aspects of good music

i know people that consider themselves hardcore 'musicians' and they listen to the weirdest and most tortuous music and spend all their time pissed off at 'less enlightened' music, while everybody else is just having a good time and feeling it

there are so many good bands out there, you need to get some album suggestions from your best mates, lock yourself in a room for a night with a bag of weed and some whiskey, and take yourself on a musical journey.  easy done

Yeah. I have an especially hard time listening to music that makes me thing "I could do better than that". Love the orchestral stuff though, anything with good complex instrumentals. Ive also found myself listening to alot of bluegrass lately, and I still love progressive rock.

Even most psychedellic stuff and classical rock Ive just lost the lust for.

I think my situation has to do with downloading music... I downloaded so much at one time that I just didn't know what to do with it all.
Back when I used to buy CDs all the time, I guess I could really get to know the album and learn to love it.

When I went on that mass downloading spree, it was like "Great, I have all this music, I don't even know where to start".

Also, I used to get to know my music while driving back and forth to school. This was during high school.
Now I hardly ever drive.

maybe you just need to dedicate a full day to downloading stuff and listening?  guarunteed you'll find a band you love and that'll be you set for at least a few days
