Icelandic ID needed
    #8805151 - 08/21/08 10:59 AM (15 years, 7 months ago)

Habitat:
Growing on a wet grassy field that sheep have been grazing on, thick clumps of moist soil covered in grass. If i was a mushroom, i would want to live there too.

Gills:
Dark Greyish Gills, see pictures for more info

Stem:
stem is long and light, a little woody when dried, some snapped easily, was slimy on picking..thin to medium thickness.

Cap:
Varying in size from about 0.5cm to 4cm, straw coloured some a bit nipply or with the top being a bit darker/yellow. some a bit domed. Very slimy when fresh and dried smooth.

Spore print color:
Dark, kind of a chocalate brown almost black, slight purple tint. We picked one other look alike to these that had an obvious rust brown spore print but these ones were definately alot darker and a different shade. Sorry if this is confusing, i havent done many spore prints to compare it to, hopefully the pics will shed some light on it.

Bruising:
No bruising i can see

Other information:
I cant find information anywhere on finding mushrooms in iceland, ive been told there is a very nice variety of non bruising liberty caps here but after doing a bit of research on the net these kind of look like some kind of panaeolius species to me. Probably innactive im guessing?

pick of them when just picked, some of the caps had dark rings on them as seen here which later dissapeared

after 1 night in the car, here is a pic of the underside of the caps with sporeprints and stems next to them

the top of the same caps

a side on pic of one of them

here is where they were picked, incidentally, it is the western most point of all of europe.

saw some puffins while we were there  sweet little guys.

thanks in advance for any help, it is much appreciated
-D

You've got some kind of inactive Stropharia mushroom there.  Very pretty pictures.  I would assume there's a possibility of finding libs in Iceland, so you may want to check the field occasionally.

It appears to be some sort of inactive Stropharia, perhaps Stropharia semiglobata.  Nice pictures.
