Newbie ID Old Mushrooms
    #8804944 - 08/21/08 12:13 PM (9 years, 9 months ago)

First post here! I was planning on going hunting after this hurricane passed, but just stumbled upon these growing right next to my backyard. They were all pretty old and dried, I'm not too sure how that will affect an ID. Thanks for any help you can provide. And sorry I don't have a camera!

Habitat:
Found in Gainesville, FL area, growing under pine tree in a lot of dead leaves and pine needles

Gills:
Dark brown, I believe not attached, the gills were hanging pretty low from the cap and not attached to the stem.

Stem:
2 1/2 in length, 3/16 in dia, white, very brittle, hollow, thin, upon plucking the stem split very easily although this might be just that they were old and dried out.

Cap:
2.5-3 in dia, light brown in the center and tan-white near the edges, very soft texture and very brittle (result of oldness?), pretty flat on top with edges slightly pointed up.

Spore print color:
EDIT: The spore print is definitely brown.

Bruising:
No bruising was found, like at all although this could be attributed to dryness/oldness.

Other information:
First time poster, so if there wouldnt be a positive ID, ill just throw em out. I also found an Emetic Russula, right nearby... it was actually quite beautiful. And there were also what I believe were Chlorophyllum molybdites living off the the dead grass in my lawn.

Those pictures don't look too similar, almost none of the mushrooms were clustered or even within an inch of each other. The caps were more convex and pointed upwards (i'd say the cap was flat for the inner 2 inch diameter, with the remaining curving upwards), even with some of the smaller ones.

thanks for any help.

Yep, either Psatherylla or Agaricus something.
Does it have a persistant ring on the stem?
