Could be a different species of Gyms that aren't active or as potent. Better pictures would help. If your camera has a macro setting try to use it. It's a little flower icon.
If the patch is nearby I'd say they were the same Gyms though. Around here they spread through the forest that way.

There was a kid on here who found and ate sum Gym. lutes and he ate a few of them and didnt feel anything but his girlfriend did. I guess it just varies, ive had sum large more mature weilii i found and ate 13 of them and they didnt do anything it was strange. They had been in the rain for while and then the sun i could tell by there condition, i think this had a major impact on the potency.
Maybe yours were old or like senor said a non active species, yes get better pics for sure yours are blurry.

Weiliiiii, you find Gyms. Does the same species grow in the same area? I have never found them mixed. They seem to follow a trail or something.

Well, in the woods, like next to a river, they seem to follow a path. I can go from one log and down the path a piece there is another log and then another piece there is a stump and so on.
I have also seen three different roads with fruitings down it for a few miles.
What I have rarely, if at all, seen is a singular fruiting of just one clump and then no others at all.
From that I have concluded that the wind current spread the spores in a direction. They "follow a trail."
Check this out sometime when you are finding them.

The leps in the pic on the right of my sig are like that, they started showing up about 70 yards from where the pic above was taken. Now they fruit all down the path from the original spot, its a park and all the paths are covered in wood chips so they are everywhere.

Damn straight!
This is good to know.
What is cooler though is that I have NEVER seen it mentioned in the literature!
And yeah, Oysters can be like that too.
That's a pretty significant piece of information, weiliiiii. Thanks for the confirmation!

so does the wind stay pointed in the same direction at all times? cuz if not then they'd be everywhere. but with the gyms i find i only seen them growing off the wood chips and nowhere else. theres a huge pile of it in my sub division and is being used for constructing the rest of the neighborhood and all.

The way I figure it when the cars drive down the road they carry the spores in a direction where there is more habitat. Along a river they do the same thing only the river only flows in one direction.
Like;
X.............X.............X..X........X
What you don't normally get or at least I haven't seen it is:
X........................................X
And then later:
X.............X..........................X
If your pile is the origination point I would expect to see new fruitings of Gyms in the neighborhood traveling in a certain direction within a few years.
Spore are carried by the wind so it makes perfect sense.

Oh and yes, in many places the wind usually blows from one direction. Watch the weather on the news and you'll see this. We live on the Great Lakes and the wind almost always comes across the lake.
