How should I fix this?
    #8802067 - 08/20/08 07:51 PM (9 years, 8 months ago)

I have a cool looking snuff bottle but a part of it broke off... Its made of of animal bone, so I was wondering what kind of glue I should use.

Here is it normally

Here is the part I need to fix

It didn't snap or anything, it just came loose. So what kind of glue should I use to fix this guy?

dont use anything to repair it, if it's old you will devalue it by
attempting to repair it with modern adhesives, the piece looks as
though it has a clear lacquer finish, if anything that's what you
should use to make an adhesive bond

It does have clear coat on it. Im not sure about the age or value, but it is pretty cool so I dont want to mess it up. What do you think the best way to fix it is? I should use a clear coat to bond it together?

you can find clear lacquer in spray cans, spray some into the cap
and let it start to thicken a little, paint the inside of the
round piece with some and the part that inserts with a little
more, use a small paint brush... if the fit it loose you can
build it up with additional coats before actually joining them,
make sure that before joining them together you put on a fresh
coat to both parts.

once the 2 pieces are joined and dry apply a few light coats at
the joint on both sides, this should bond them together well

is that for show or do you use it? if so: will that bond last?

just asking because theres not much space for contact between the two pieces.
