The larvae in pan subbs would be normal for where they are picked at, in pastures i find tons of larvae in the subbs i get from there. I never find many bugs in the weilii i find, sometimes I can see when a slug has ate sum of the cap and sum of the bugs dickenz mentioned but i think bugs, frogs, animals, etc are around shrooms just cuz they share the same habitat thats all. I dont think there is anything important about them there just living like they always do. Its not like substrate at all, substrate has a huge impact on the mushrooms such as size they grow, how long they grow, shapes they grow into, etc. Trees are important also, many trees prefer certain types of woods. Weilii like loblolly or other pines, chants like oak as do morels so i would say substrate and habitat are the most important things to think about when hunting.

This is what they should look like clean, notice how bulbous the base is. Some people tear the part with dirt off, i just scrape it off with my fingernail.

See some of my pics above and then these, looks pretty good i think.

Lovin spoonful your photos Weiliiiiiii, I've been busy last couple weeks, havent cought up on thread till today. I will say that you don't wash any mushroom,... ever, it is written in cook books and many other places, i dont know the exact science behind it, but my older sister told me years ago when i was helpping her with a recipie,  to just lightly wipe with a dry pappertowel , or tap and brush them off... ever so gingerly, like petting your loved one.

I wash edibles but not actives, psilocybin is water soluble so it decreases potency. I know sum noobs wouldnt notice the change in potency but after doing this for as long as I have ya tend to notice little things like that. Plus putting extra water on your caps puts more moisture into it and might cause mold issues if your not careful. Lots of the smaller ones with there caps barely open can get drops of water caught up there and that is bad, it could rot the mushroom, cause mold, or decrease potency and I dont want any of those things happening.

Sweet finds, guys.  Dicken's patch is on fire...those pics of the lush grass are awesome with the little heads poking up.  Weiliiiiii - amazing pics as usual.  I had my own little triumph today - finally found my first woodland patch after much searching behind some townhomes in Smyrna.  All but one were rotted and too nasty to pick.

nothing special specimen wise, but I'll take it.  Can't wait to go back after a good rain and see what pops up.  Maybe Fay will hit and the first big flushes of the fall will begin...  :peace:

cutting my neighbors grass and came upon some wonderful fruits of nature. this is my 4th spot i have found so far and every one has been in fescue grass. coincidence??? never found them in bermuda. the first pic doesn't look as good as it really is. they dont look so dark as they appear in the pic.

Nice pics.  I wonder if anyone else can verify this association with the grasses.  That would be an interesting habitat fact.

From today.

All the clusters together

Closed caps, there were a few of these

This little cluster got hacked by a lawnmower, notice the cap...OUCH

I like these two

I think this pic is funny, how the cap on the right is squished up against the other one

Some of the stipes on these were so fat they were starting to split:eek:

And all of them

thinking about it, before i ever cared about shrooms, i found some of these once in the beginning of september and just chucked em at the trees, they were growing off of wood chips in the woods, and they looked just like those, i ended up getting into shrooms when i went back there the next week to find some, cuz one of my friends have been wanting some, so i went and picked the same ones from the same spot gave em to him and i smoked a couple bowls while he ate em, i guess he knew what he was doing, and i just laughed the whole time stoned as hell watching him trip. that was one year ago, and since then ive been stuck on them studding them constantly. the only time i tripped on shrooms was when i had found some gyms 2 months later
