you might be surprised....
since I started using agar I must have done 20-30 jars, without a flowhood/glovebox/"oven tek" or anything, and haven't had a single contam.
doesn't seem likely does it? maybe I've got magic hands or something:grin:
the normal way to do it is to autoclave the bags with the tops loosely held shut and let them cool in a flowhood or glovebox then innoculate with agar wedges and seal the bags, still in the glovebox.

I'd say the "oven tek" is less than useless. If you don't have a flowhood or glovebox you want to minimise air movement, not get some nice convection currents to suck up dust etc and send it spinning around the kitchen:tongue:

see the thing about ovens is you can get them up to 400 degrees...trust me it'll be sterile after a half hour at 400. fuck bleach,

use a tie wrap like form the hareware store fold the bag on its self and tie it

hmm, well I think the oven tek is more of a superstition thing than anything else.
plenty of people might get zero contams using the oven tek, but they probably would have without using it also.....
personally, I always wear black socks, and never get contams.
but to think that wearing black socks prevents contams is lacking logic  yes?:tongue:
or is it......?

Yes, rubber bands work. I have used them on oven bags in the PC.
Use the wider, thicker ones :smile:
