Mississippi Gulf Coast hunting -- results
    #8799017 - 08/19/08 11:20 PM (15 years, 7 months ago)

I'm visiting the Mississippi Gulf Coast right now and am planning a mushroom hunting excursion. I'm right on the gulf, but intend to travel inland to find grazing pastures.

It's been raining pretty much every day for weeks now. There are mushrooms all over the place in people's yards, etc.

Was wondering if this is a bad time of year to hunt as well as if there are any species that are specific to this area other than typical p. cubenisis.

Any advice is much appreciated.

I saw the posts by the folks hunting in the Houston area, so I'm optimistic at my chances for success.

I'll be driving through Louisiana later this week, so I could hunt through those fields as well depending on what people can recommend.

Appreciatively,

emotional friend

Look for Panaeolus cyanescens "copes" or Panaeolus subbalteatus "subbs"

Had some success this morning.

Found a field along I10 in Eastern Louisiana. Pull right off side of highway, walk into the trees like you're gonna pee. Come out with a handful.

Could use some help with ID's on these....

Thanks for your assistance, Senor Hongo. Just for clarification, is the group photo of six the Psilocybe cubensis? Or are those Subbs?

Those look like Copes.  Did they bruise blue?
