Make a cutting of it, let it root and plant it.
It will be the same as the first.

yes, cut a good 4 inches of it off and let it callous for about a week. stick in dirt and within 4 weeks you should see signs of new growth.

Make sure it has at least a few spines on it and cut it out. You might want to dust it with sulfur powder to prevent rotting. Root in sterile medium and cover with something to trap in moisture. Once it starts to root remover cover and plant.

Anywhere that sells plants and plant supplies. Even Wall Mart. Especially any where that sells seed potatoes. I get mine from Lowe's. And you can also get rooting hormones there too, such as RooTone, although I've never used it on cactus before.

Personally, I like cactus because they are so easy to take care of, except when it comes to re-potting them, then it becomes a major pain in the ass (or hands I should say).

nah, you will find it's actually quite easy to identify them after a while. i've only been hooked on cacti for a little over a year and half to two years myself.

you can do tissue culture cloning and have actual clones but that is way advanced. But I suppose if you can do agar work with mushies then tissue culture cloning is almost the same. except the Agar recipe is different.
but yeah cuttings are easy though like Amberica mentioned.
what I learned from rooting cuttings though is to let them root totally out of the dirt. find something to support them upright and let fresh air get to the bottoms. That way they wont get mold or rot on the bottom. I had that happen before trying to root them in soil. and then water only lightly for 6 months or so or untill the rootsystem is well established before fully drenching the soil.
Just wait till you see rootbuds before planting. I dont use sulfur but I make sure theres fresh air getting to the cut parts.
but one thing to think of....
bigger cacti grow faster so avoid cutting them up at all costs.  I have some huge 7lb Pedro logs that grew 20+" fat offsets in a year.

no one mentioned cloning cacti by grafting? :tongue2:
with the smaller, slow growing species like lophophora, it is the easiest and fastest way...

I lold so hard.

When i went to san antonio i saw a lot of prickly pear cactus, so i took out my knife completely un sterile and cut it, stuck it in the trunk... Then when i got home i stuck it in soil and watered it..

One rotted but the other three grew fine.

opuntia species are really easy, they dont seem to take too much offence to plenty of water, even when they are unrooted cuttings
